 The article taken for understanding the topic includes all the social and academic integration factors which affect the academic performance of the international students. The reason due to which this particular source is suitable for the study of the topic is that it not only highlights the factors which affect the international student’s academic performance but provides detailed analysis of that how different factors effect different groups of international students, to what extend and the reasons why one factor affects one group more than the other. International students are divided into four different groups (Dutch students, western students, mixed western student and non-western students) and detailed comparison between the different level of social and academic integration factors affecting the academic performance amongst these groups is also provided. The source also discuss the information regarding the time period till which the different factors usually affect the academic performance of international students.

The article discusses the impact of different factors of academic and social integration on international students. The central argument of the article is whether or not the social and academic integration of the domestic student is different from the international student and to what extend does it vary, and to what extend does it affect the educational performance of the international students. The Interaction model of Tinto is discussed multiple times in the article with reference to previous researchers using it as basis of their argument that international student lack academic and social integration which effects their academic performance. But the author of this article builds his research questions not only the Tinto interaction models but also adds eight other social integration factors which may have an impact on the academic performance of the students which have been identified in past researches.

The impact of social and academic integration on academic performance of the non-western is high. The non-western student face the most difficulty in adapting to the western culture and environment which eventually affect their academic performance. It is most justified result of this research because the non-western student face the language barrier, cultural difference, in some cases racial discrimination, difference in values and various other factors which contribute in hindering their ability to effective interact and perform in academics.

The research indicates that the academic performance of the western students is even better than the local Dutch student and they exhibit better result in social and academic integration. I would like to find out more about this phenomena, what are factors which are motivating the western students to perform better than even local student because this negates the assumptions of Tinto’s interaction model. In addition to that what factors are stopping the local student who are familiar with education system and have a social environment to out perform the foreign students?
