Autobiography

First of all, my name is suhib okour, I was born in small village at the north of Jordan which called "al-sarieh" on 30-march-1985, as my brothers and father says" it was a hard day to your mother who complain hard before and after born you". I had simple life as any simple child in his early life with five brother and four sister, my life was interesting until the disastrous day come when my mother dead, in 24/September/1994. At that time my age was nine years and I didn’t know anything about the facts behind this unfortunate event, the days run and I know the bad fact that my mother dead in lung cancer post many wrong diagnosis, this big loss cannot be forgotten easy, which have an impact on my personal life. In fact after long time I had recovered from this event, I decide to continue my life in way that will proud my mother if she still a life. At school my grade in every year was excellence 96% and above, and in every semester I had a Certificate of Appreciation as recognition of my effort in studding & high moral attitude during dealing with teachers & collogues. until I entered the final stage at school which known " tawjihi", my overall average was unexpected related to my previous achievement and I was un satisfied in the score which was (87.4%) , when the day come to decide at what field I will enroll, my choice was to study medicine in Syria because my average not acceptable to study in Jordan, my father stand in my way and prevent me to go outside Jordan, I start to look for the alternatives until I choose to study nursing. After enrolled in Hashemite University at school of nursing I finished four years at overall average very good "3.06". Many things learned during this period like knowledge, skills, communication, responsibility, friendships….etc...

My profession as a nurse start when I employed at private hospital as registered nurse in medical surgical floor for 6 month after that worked in ICU for another 6 months in same time after one years I was a member in infection control committee and has a part time in providing orientation for new employees, so I have good experience in teaching and orienting the staff about the new challenges. At this time I returned to my first place at medical surgical registered nurse, still a member in infection control committee and have orientation responsibility while studying in Jordan University of science and technology at nursing faculty in master program "nursing service administration", I completed until now the first semester and this is the second one. Although there is a lot of work load and studying materials but I am enjoyed because I have wonderful faculty team.

Hashemite university, school of nursing, graduate average very good (3.06), in 2009.

At this year 2012, I involved in master program in nursing service administration at Jordan University of science and technology.

Personal leadership philosophy statement

In today's worlds, leadership become an increasingly key attribute in any field or occupation. And to be successful leader there should be a strong connection between core values, believes and leadership philosophy statement, also the successful required a vision for where to be in the future, also the leader should developed a strategy to achieve the goals.

In this document I will explain my leadership philosophy, according to what I believe and to the core values.. First of all leadership meaning to me is more than simply has followers, not a title, not achieved by following a few principles, its complex, thought at its core, its making the right choice not popular one, also achieving positive and lasting impact. The first step in determining my leadership philosophy by identifying my core values. Which I can defined as in what individual, group, or organization personally or collectively believe, it’s the foundation to build anything in personal life, everything stem from core values.

Key values that form my own foundation are family (which consist of many values), friendship, relationship, respect, authenticity, ethics, integrity, self-sacrifice, humility, honor, religious, stoicism, and courage, humor, growth and learning. In these listed values some have direct effect on my leadership philosophy, on other hand the other values have in direct effect, because they impact me as individual. The core values that I have listed contain many key points that I will use in my own leadership philosophy.

Integrity: it is the most (or one of) important that I cherish, Also ethical practice has significant place, especially during my experience in practice, the complex definition of ethics vs. integrity, it concluded in what is the right and act it, in any case of whether or not anyone watching. In my simple point of view, I see this value as framework for each leader who will make decision, without this core value there is no motivator to push other values.

Respect: is another essential value because if you don’t respect someone, then how can you follow him to achieve certain goals, in addition true respect of other is hard to accomplished as a leader, but it should be in the consideration of any successful group, in respect others the leaders and followers must be able to encourage advice and feedback from each other, and take in consideration before decision making, it is demanding that leader should gain respect from followers, I believe that by following my core values, I can gain respect from followers.

Authenticity: refers to truthfulness in origin, there is no effective leader without having comfortable knowledge about himself, when this value gains, the decision should made in way that leader says true to his ideals, not only to himself but also to others, this mean consistency in decisions and behaviors and appropriate degree of openness with followers.

Passion: passion is deeply rooted; intense feeling toward something, without passion you will not be a great leader, I see the passion like spark, it can create a blaze in both leaders and followers, pushing and pushing to achieve certain goals, its great motivators in difficult situation when generate in right time by right leader.

Hard work and dedication: leadership is not easy, understanding followers, educated, directed and motivated them not easy task, in addition, leaders also always run into challenge, even in case of failure, leaders take possession of dedication so that they are not disappointed, willing to re-evaluate and change the direction in case as needed.

Humor: everything has his time and his place, and everything if used in his right place and time it will be effective, humor one of these things. I think a sense of humor is essential part of leadership, from my previous experience not all leaders have a sense of humors, in order to be successful in everything , including leadership, the risk must be taken in consideration, with these risks the possibility failures come sometime, in such circumstances the leader should face them, shake them off, able to move on. When used appropriately, humor can highlight too significant situation, or to bring about group strong bonds.

Growth and learning: leaders should always seek for opportunity for growth and learning, thinking globally and acting locally.

According to my core values that I have mentioned, I can create my vision where I would like to be in near future and how I can be there. My vision concluded by attaining a management position in my institution or another one as soon as I can, retaining my core values, as well as living a well balanced life.

Some of the core values that I listed humility, loyalty, honor, self sacrifice, and courage. All of these values I believe they can help to make myself better leader and person because they are relate and strengthen the core values and directly affect my leadership ability. One of most important aspect in my philosophy is my family, because they are another support of my foundation, my life and leadership philosophy. If I maintain these values I believe I will have an excellent leadership philosophy, where I will successful in life, successful mean happiness.

Theoretical foundation of personal leadership philosophy statement

After considering the literature and numerous theories we have studied, I found myself drawn to contingency theories approach, which suggests that leadership styles adapted in relation to changing situation, in this approach the leadership behaviors range from authoritarian to permissive vary in the relation according to the needs and future probability. Contingency theories of leadership analyzed how situational factors alter the effectiveness of behavior and leadership style of particular leader, also it explain that the key in prober leadership style to situation faced by leaders(da Cruz, Nunes, & Pinheiro, 2011). Also, in this approach the leaders may delegate to competence followers a task to be complete in certain situation while on other hand they become a decision maker like emergency situation. As we know a lot of theories about leadership styles, and no one style is the best among all situation, so for contingency theories, the leadership style emerged depend on situation and this point get this type to be my favorite theory approach.

Professional five years plan

Goal: complete the master program in Jordan University of science and technology with minimum grade very good.

Objective:

1- By the end of June, 2014. I will be able to complete all the courses that related to my master program in nursing service administration.

2- By the end of this semester, I will be able to write simple proposal about my thesis topic by reading a lot of literature and summarize a proposal which it significant to nursing.

3- By the end of this semester I will be able to determine my thesis supervisor, related to my proposal, which he or she interested in.

4- At the beginning of first semester in second year, I will be able to take unpaid leave that can improve my working on thesis and give me more free time to review a lot of literature.

Goal: attain a management position in my workplace as fast as I can or in another institution.

Objective:

1- By the end of May 2013, I will be able to apply my leadership philosophy statement in my institution and influence others.

2- Before the end of master program, I will be able to participate in at least two surveys that related to my field of work.

3- By the end of master program, I will be able to engage in many conferences that improve my knowledge.

4- During my master program, I will be able to present at least three lecture in my institution related to evidence base practice, and about nursing research.

Goal: Loyalty to study and live up to the top of the academically

Objective:

1- In each day in my life, I will try to improve my knowledge, and keep myself up to date by reading articles that newly published as much as I can.

2- At the end of master program, I should obtain high grade which give me opportunity to prepare for PHD.

3- Will participate effectively in 2-3 research conducting process either as a primary investigator or a co-investigator within 2013-2015.

4- Identifying the most weakness point in nursing practice in my institution and provide the staff up to date knowledge about these aspect, which will improve my knowledge too.
