Introduction

This assignment is about the leadership and the management and through the assignment is covering four tasks. Each of the tasks is different and it is discussed about the organisational objectives and values and its impact on the leadership and management. It is mentioned the leadership and management skills required to achieve the company you objectives. It is discussed about the personal leadership skills and requirement of personal development. Same time it provides the personal development plan with time framework as well. End of the assignment it is mentions how that development plan can be developed further to get maximum outcome.

Task 1

Analyse the impact of organisational objectives, values and culture in the leadership and management role

According to the Kotter (1999) Leadership is the central role that drives the business towards its objectives. Management helps achieving organizational goals and objectives in an efficient and effective manner. According to the Adair (2006) Management and leadership are very much interrelated. A visionary leader drives and guide human capital towards achieving organizational success and the individual success.

Management and leadership are different concepts and according to the Dessler (2008) leadership is important to success the business goals and it is supported to manage the employees. According to the company objectives it is impacted for the company management and the leadership since they have to create leadership styles and the management process depend on the company objectives. They have to make strategies according to the company objectives. As Dubrin (2008) mentions manager much know the five functions of the management such as planning, staffing, organising, directing and controlling and this is should maintain by the management. Always company objectives should match with the candidates and when the company recruits them they have to consider whether that person is fit with the company objectives and whether they are able to achieve the company objectives through the candidate. According to the Dessler (2008) Company values depend on the company culture and it is important to adapt the employees to the company culture. If the employee is not match with the company culture that person is unable to perform well in that organisation. Therefore management is responsible about this and when they recruit the employees they have to consider this factor. Company culture is highly related with the company's leadership style and based on the culture management has to change the leadership style and the management style. There are different leadership styles which can apply to the organisations and it can be different according to the business type, culture and values of the company.

Evaluate the leadership and management skills required to support the achievement of organisational objectives

There are many leadership and management skills which are support for the achievements of organisation objectives. These skills should have with the management since they are the one who direct employees towards the company goals. Same time team leaders should also have those skills to guide their team members and it is important to motivate them.

According to the Jo (2009) there are different skills which required by the management and mainly this can mention as personal skills and the professional skills. Interpersonal skills, informational skills and the decisional skills come under the professional skills and manager has to coordinate with others to get their maximum to the organisation. To motivate employees and to direct them these skills are important. According to the Jo (2009) Listening skills, observational skills, communication skills, self development skills and etc can mention under the personal skills and these skills can develop by the manager by himself. Following figure is mentions some of the leadership skills required by a manager such as managing people, strategies, leading people, knowledge and etc. The leader has to understand the company goals and objectives first and then after it is important to have the knowledge how to achieve those goals. Then only they are able to direct the employees towards those objectives. When it is required leader has to make the decisions and also should have problem solving skills. To guide others it is significant to have communication skills with the leader. According to the John (2002) any manager should have leadership skills and qualities to perform well. They should know how to control others. But according to the company culture they can use different type of leadership styles to control employees.

According to the Casco (200) other than above mentioned skills there are many other personal skills and the professional skills which should have with a person. Mainly as a manager he has to have skills like managing others, working with others, team building skills, get things done and etc. According to the Desseler (2008) skills can be changed according to the job role. There are some of the jobs which are required special skills to handle orders and to perform in the job.

Assess your personal leadership and management skills and identify the personal development required to support the achievement of organisational objectives

When it is takes the marketing manager’s role he has to have personal leadership skills and the management skills to direct others and to guide them. Marketing manager is responsible about his team members and there are individual targets as well as the team targets to achieve. These all the targets are linked to the company objectives and when the team members achieve their targets it is the effect of the company performance as well as their individual performance. As a marketing manager it is important to have the communication skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, strategic planning, quick learning skills, and relationship building skills, negotiation skills and etc with him. In this Organisation, objective is to get more customers towards the business and when the marketing manager is good in relationship building, communication and decision making than it is support to get more customers as well as to keep the existing customers with the organisation. When the manager has those skills other team members also can learn things from their manager and they are also can direct by the manger. This is impacted for the company to achieve the company objectives.

Other than that company required to make more profits and through these skills marketing manager is able to support to achieve that objective by getting more sales to the organisation. According to the Adair (2006) as an effective and efficient manager he is able to support to the team members and will manage and control them properly with these skills.

Assess the opportunities for the development of your leadership and management skills

It is important to develop the leadership and the management skills to perform well in the career and as marketing manager it is important to develop those required skills. There are different ways to develop those skills such as through the training and development, by observations, through friends and outsides and etc. Same time personal skills are able to develop by reading and by increasing the knowledge. Leadership style is one of the major factors which are impacted for a leader and there are leadership styles like autocratic leadership style, democratic leadership style and etc. According to the Casco (2006) Autocratic leader is a person who takes his own decisions and work according to his own plan. But this leadership style suit with some of the careers and not with all. According to the Casco (2006) currently most of the organisations use the democratic leadership style since it is flexible and members of the group are able to make decisions about their works. To develop the required leadership skills company some time provide required training in board or out aboard bases and it is supporting them to develop their personal skills. Through the experience also managers are able to develop their personal skills like negotiation skills and etc. But knowledge is significant for any leader since it is not only the subject knowledge but also the technical knowledge, political connectivity, environmental impact and etc also should know by him.

When it is mentioned the gaps in this position since this person is not good in English language and some of the customers as well as the team members are unable to understand this language. Therefore it is important to develop those gaps during the personal development. Same time most of the times this person is using autocratic leadership style to control others even his work with a team. It makes others de-motivated and it is important to develop this situation by understanding the democratic leadership style and how to use it in this organisation. This is can do by studying about the different leadership styles and studying those case studies. Also it is required to develop the communication skills by how to pronounce the words and etc. According to the Gomer- Mejia et al. (2008) most of the times it is required to have good knowledge about negotiation skills and it is also should develop more to perform well in the job. Because there are different types of customers and some of them are difficult to handle. These skills will be supported when it comes to difficult customers.

There are many opportunities to develop the leadership and management skills of a person. According to the Jo (2009) especially through the day to day activities, experience, observations, studying, knowledge sharing and etc will support to get a better idea and knowledge about the leadership and management skills. Other than that training and development programs can arrange by the company to develop their employee’s skill levels. When the skill level is high they are able to perform well in their jobs and it is the effect of the company performance.

According to the plan it is takes about two years to implement and all the objectives should cover within that period. According to the objectives it is required to increase the democratic leadership skills, negotiation skills and the communication skills. It takes about one year to develop the democratic leadership skills and it is able to doing more studies relating to the topic to increase the knowledge about this. According to the Carldwell (2000) same time it is important to give team works for the group members to develop the teams. After that they are able to work as a team and make their decisions. This is supported to maintain the democratic leadership style within the department. When they do the team works it is able to evaluate their performance as well as their decision making ability. Through that manager is able to get an idea about the team members and their skills. This is support him to trust them and give chance them to make decisions. It makes work easier for the manager and team development is also happening.

When it is takes the second objective is supported to increase the negotiation skills and for that manager can learn it through the experience. But to get the knowledge it is important to participate in the training programs and it develops the thinking pattern of the manager. Also through the studies it is able to get more idea about different type of negotiation case studies. This training program can arrange by the organisation as well as he is able to find courses and participate by himself. The next objective is to develop the communication skills and since he is poor in English language he has to participate in training programs as well as having to develop the sounds and speaking in a proper manner. To develop personal skills like this individual has to work out such as he is able to do more reading and speaking (Gomez-Mejia, 2008, pp 19).

Any development plan should go according to the development process and it should be as follows. According to that first it has to do a self evaluation to find the weakness and the areas should cover through the development plan. Then it should develop the targets and then action plan. After implementation it has to practice and evaluate to find the errors in the development plan.

Review your personal development plan against the original objectives

When it is mentioned the company objectives, the company required to get more sales and more profit. Same time they required to fulfil the customers and provide them what they need. For that it is important to match the objectives of the plan with the company requirements. To obtain the company objective manager has to perform well in his job and for that he has to have the necessary skills with him. Therefore it is important to have negotiation skills, communication skills and the leadership knowledge with that person to perform well in his job.

As explained by Gomez-Mejia (2008, pp 19) when developed the objectives it has to do after evaluation. Since this is a personal development plan required person as to do a self evaluation to find the weak points and the requirements of that person. After that he is able to develop the objectives. These objectives should match with the company objectives and there should have interconnection between those objectives.

Evaluate the effectiveness of your personal development of leadership and management skills

It is able to evaluate the effectiveness of the personal development plan and this can do by using different techniques and methods. To evaluate the democratic leadership skills it is able to evaluate individual himself whether he is able to give more team works to the group and whether he is provide chance them to make decisions and etc. He can calculate how many group works he has given them in one month and how many decisions make by the team and etc. These details will support him to change his mindset and to think that democratic leadership style is better to have with his department. Also he can increase the reading about democratic leadership style and also when the one case study is ready he can apply it to the team and see what type of change he can see through the team members (Shannon, 2000, pp 50).

When it has developed the negotiation skills it is also can evaluate by finding the how many negotiations did per month and how many were successes and how many were lost. By calculating each month after the training programs it is able to find the progress of the training (Dessler, 2008, pp 02). When it is implementing the communication skills he is able to get feedback from the customers and through that he is able to find his progress and the weak areas. Same time he is able to get feedback from the employees, subordinates and through that also he is able to find the progress of these language skills.

Analyse areas for further development and update your personal development plan

When it is conducting such personal development plan after implantation only it is able to find some more weak areas or the problems relating to the personal development plan.

There are problems like he may be unable to develop himself according to the given time framework and some time he may be find some more weal areas when it is participate for the training programs. Also if he felt more interest he may be thought to participate in the training program continuously (Kandula, 2006). If so it is cost much and has to spend more time as well.
