LEADER

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." --John Quincy Adams.

In order to understand leadership concept first we have to understand that who is leader .So leader is a person who do planning, directing, controlling, covenanting, organizing, regulating and the most important is leading in a system .Or in other words we can say that leader is a person who take the initiative to influence and motivate his followers (team) to obtain a common goal.

Leader

+ (motivation) = attain goal process leadership

A good leader is not the person who does things right, but the person who finds the right things to do." --Anthony T. Dadovano

LEADERSHIP CONCEPT

LEADERSHIP

"Leadership is a combination of strategy and character. If you must be without one, be without the strategy." --Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

Leadership is the process as well as the ability of a leader to lead in a team in order to achieve a common task. Leadership is a basically a quality done leader by of raising person’s vision and motivating there team to a higher levels of performance and ability as well as building a task oriented team beyond normal limitations. According to me leadership is a god gifted and or in built quality but yes we can also learn these qualities by practicing proper knowledge, technical skills and doing proper training as well as experience in order to inspire team for high level of performance and efficiency. Leadership can’t be learnt by simply reading about it. It comes naturally in our traits .for example if we are in a class (team) n someone has some problem and u come forward and take the initiative to solve that problem. This initiative makes us the leader.

So the process of leadership involves are as follow:

Plan of action (to attain goal).

Organizing and directing (the plan).

Motivating and inspiring (to the team).

Identifying problems (the work to be done by team).

Solving problems with best alternative.

Decision making

Give reward when goal attain (to the team)

TYPES OF LEADERSHIP STYLES

Basically there are five types of leadership styles : (www.legacee.com)

Autocratic leadership style.

Democratic leadership style.

Free laissez leadership style.

Transactional leadership style.

Transformational leadership style.

Autocratic leadership style:

An autocratic leadership style is a centralised authority style which involves leader has all the powers like decision making and does lots of interference in team work. Whole of the comment is in the hands of leader and he is the supervisor. The disadvantage of autocratic leadership style is that workers feel that they are too closely supervised and hence become more hostile towards the leader who appears not to trust them.

Democratic leadership style:

The democratic style of leadership ,the followers got some democracy .they can do their job according to what they want but yes ,still the leader holds whole power of command .the advantage of this style is that workers feel comfortable while doing their job. It also called as Participative Leadership Style

Free laissez leadership style:

The style is largely a "hands off" view that tends to minimize the amount of direction and face time required. Works well if you have highly trained and highly motivated direct reports.

Transactional leadership style:

This leadership style is basically carrying out a traditional leading by clarifying the role and task required for the workers ,initiating structure providing appropriate rewards and trying to meet social need of subordinates .

Transformational Leadership style:

This is a modified and advanced form of leadership style . in this style leader make there follower aware of how to important their jobs as well as there performance for the team in order to achieve their goal.

Why i like him?

I like and consider him a good leader because i did all this business planning on his own even he he was born in a poor family nothing had came in his way. He really proved that if u really want to do some thing and have a strong desire for it even that it seem impossible but yes you can do it by having your sprits up and using right target to trig at right time, like Dhirubhai started off as a small time worker with Arab merchants in the 1950s and moved to Mumbai in 1958 to start his own business in spices. After making modest profits, he moved into textiles and opened his mill near Ahmedabad. Dhirubhai founded Reliance Industries in 1958. After that it was a saga of expansions and successes

Popular media

In 1998, a book published by Hamish McDonald titled "The Polyester Prince" is also an unauthorised biography of Dhirubhai Ambani, outlining all his political and business conquests. HarperCollins didn’t sell the book in India, because the Dirubhai threatened legal action.[19]

A film said to be inspired by the life of Dhirubhai Ambani was released on 12 January 2007. The Hindi Film Guru, directed by ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, cinematography by Rajiv Menon and music by A.R.Rahman shows the struggle of a man striving to make his mark in the Indian business world with a fictional Shakti Group of Industries. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Aishwarya Rai, R. Madhavan and Vidya Balan. In the film, Abhishek Bachchan plays Guru Kant Desai, a character implicitly based on Dhirubhai Ambani. The character is known in the film as "GURUBHAI", similar to the real-life "DHIRUBHAI." Mithun Chakraborty portrays Manikda who bears an uncanny resemblance to the real life Ramanath Goenka and Madhvan portrays S. Gurumurthy, who gained national fame twenty years ago, spearheading virulent attacks against the Reliance group in one of India's bloodiest corporate wars ever.

In 2010, an updated version of the book went on sale in India, called Ambani and Sons, there has been no legal action against the publisher so far. (wikipedia, 2010)

Ratan Naval Tata the present Chairman of Tata Sons and therefore, Tata Group[1], India's largest conglomerate founded by Jamsedji Tata and consolidated and expanded by later generations of his family . with revenues of $17.8 billion He is also the chairman of major Tata companies such as Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Tea, Tata Chemicals, The Indian Hotels Company and Tata Teleservices. Tata at the helm of the then-stodgy company, he set out to unite, refocus, and modernize the sprawling group of almost 100 largely independent businesses. Helped by cash from its booming software unit (Tata Consultancy Services) and by the growth of India's economy, he has rebuilt its shareholdings in its largest subsidiaries (by revenue), including Tata Motors and Tata Steel, and increased its revenue sixfold. In 1995 he took on the passenger car business—an effort that three years later resulted in the launch of India's first indigenously designed, developed, and produced car, the Indica.

Ratan Tata believed that the biggest challenge for the Group was finding the right talent and retaining the Group's value systems as it grew bigger and more diverse.he believe in modern business technology.

Why I like him ?

He believed that the Group had to expand the managerial perspective while retaining the same ethical and moral standards. That made his failure to designate a successor all the more disconcerting.

Workplace Frustrations

According to ,"the Tuesday edition of USA Today there was a small "snapshot" that presented the results of a survey to 1200 workers asking them about their top workplace frustrations.  The top five": (www.workingsmarter.typepad.com, 2005)

Poor communication by senior management - 17%

Office Politics - 16%

Lack of teamwork - 15%

The use of politically correct language - 9%

Nosy co-workers - 6%

Poor communication: According to me when it’s a work place of 1200 people then poor communication is the obvious condition to be precipitated because it is difficult to communicate in this number of worker which may be from different culture. So the brings a big diversity of people .The main reasons of poor communication are like, language barriers, different ethical group and individual nature .These all may lead to a poor communication in a work station and may hinder the origination growth because it makes worker fell that they are being neglected, has no importance and does not have clarity that what to do. , so they fell frustrated. and moreover if leader does not have a good communication then followers will not able to understand that what is there goal which has to be obtained .leader and follower relationship is based on communication ,if there is no or least communication between them then there is no meaning of leadership in a workplace.

Office politics: I think office politics plays very drastic impact on leadership. Because if there is politics inside the office then this will lead to distract all workers from there real objective towards the unproductive works. So once again the followers are not there to do work to get the organizational task.

Lack of teamwork: As we know leader is a person who lead a team and team is made of individuals which as to achieve a common goal. But if there is lack of teamwork then it will going to effect the whole teamwork , this may lead to raise new confects .

Politically correct language: as per my thinking its not possible to always use politically correct language, because it’s a big organization with 12oo workers. But yes a leader can try to be impartial and try to treat all worker on a same scale .

nosy co-workers :too much noise on workplace may lead to lose the focus whole team as well as leader .because noise is it self a barrier for any work.
