The design type, equipment and the protocols that are needed in structuring the IT infrastructure and how it is being install into the floor plan diagram of the library is show in the (diagram 1 and 2.)  The sitting setting has a capacity of occupying sixty people in the floor diagram plan. It demonstrate the location of the communications room, Servers, switches, wireless access points, six desktop computer PC pods, six Laptops etc. Booking has to be made in other to make use of the desktop computer through the Liberian and a password will be given to the laptops users who want to make use of the internet via wireless access point that will be available.

Note: The other six Laptops that will be purchase for staff use will be connected via Cable for security purpose, to prevent theft or stolen. Although it can also be connected via wireless access point, but to prevent staff from taken it outside the organization to avoid unauthorized access to data’s stored on the laptop.

The Component of the IT Infrastructure:

The IT Infrastructure has various components, which enable the users to make use of the Internet. Below is the following Component

Internet Service Provider (ISP) Gateway

In other to have access to internet you need an organization that will give you that access which are called Internet Services Provider (ISP) they connect clients to internet using wireless or fiber-optic connection or through copper wires. A gateway is a node (a router) on a TCP/IP network that acts as an access point to another networks According to Ross (2009). The gateway would act as a node and would transmit the traffic from the library’s workstation to another network segment. The default gateway would connect both the library’s internal networks and the outside network (Internet). It acts as a proxy server as well and a firewall. It can be connected with both a router, (which uses headers and forwarding tables to decide where packets are sent), the switch, will supply the actual path for the packet in and out of the gateway.

Wireless Access Points

The wireless access point (WAP) is the main device, that "or" which connects wireless (wi-fi) devices together to form a wireless network. The Wireless G Access Points let you connect Wireless-G (802.11g) or Wireless-B (802.11b) devices to your wired network to enable you add PCs to the network without the usage of cabling stress.

Firewall: It’s a hardware and/or software solution that helps, to restricts access from your internal network to Internet, and The other way around. Firewall is also needed when separating two or more local networks parts. In other to protect the connections between the library corporate network and the Internet, its imperative for the IT service to have firewall. This will ensure that packet sent and received (e.g. email, file transfers) from the computers within the library’s network is monitor and conforms to the security policy of the site. This will enable your systems to be protected from Internet security threats.

Server Switch: Server switches allocate inbound request trace within the nodes of Internet server groups and Web proxy cache arrays. The library server switch has be design to allow library IT services to find feature information concerning web sessions and link servers with load balancing and ant-redundancy competences. Server switch design to inspect the cookies, other features of web traffic and URLs.

Diagram illustrating the server switch

Main Switch: The library main switch would function as a regulator, allowing networked devices to communicate effectively with each other on the network. Using switches will not only be cost effective for the library but also it will increase the staff productivity via information distribution and resource sharing.

Communication Room

The communication room as illustrated in Diagram 2 is a room designated for a specific purpose of sharing amenities. The communication room would help the whole structure, as satellite sharing sites. Though, it houses main end patch panels and supports "key" technology equipment, such as the servers and the main data network router, (mail and file) and switches.

The network connections and the cabling of the total technology that reside in the building would be control by the Library IT Network Infrastructure

A full conceptual diagram of the network installation is illustrated in Diagram 1 below

File Server is a computer that stores files and is ascribed to a network, and delivers; allocate access of those files to various workstation computers. Serv-U will be the recommended one for file server, which will handle most the issue with Library file management. To obtain the license there is a fees of 280 £ this will give the organisation to have full licence for two years. They will offer support and update free of charge within this two years period. It contains the following features.

5 Industry Standard Transfer Protocols

This would improve user-friendliness to the largest client base. The industry standard transfer protocols comprises of:

FTP and FTPS

Which stands for File Transfer Protocol (FTPs) this is reliable and venerable. It provides Internet users an easy and reliable way of transferring files between one computers to another. Over the past sixteen years Serv-U has remained the industries the very best popular FTP server of all time. It ensured compatibility with major FTP clients. It has a protocol called XCRC reliability checking and MDTM file date and time alteration entrenched in it to allow it support compression of data transfers. There is a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) that allows communications to be encrypted and can be used in FTP login authorizations while the transfer of data cannot be viewed by unauthorized persons.

HTTP and HTTPS

Serv-U provides support for the traditional HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) used normally to allocate web pages on the World Wide Web (www). Integrated with all Serv-U versions is the Web Client which is a file transfer client used by common web browsers to transfer files from one place to another in a Serv-U File Server. The prevalent browsers comprise Internet Firefox 2+, Opera 9+, Apple Safari 3+, Google Chrome 1 and Explorer 6+. Secured socket layer (SSL) variations of the named HTTPS are also supported by the Serv-U Gold. When using HTTPS to login to Serv-U, together the Web Client and FTP Voyager JV also use HTTPS to secure its data transferred.

SFTP

Serv-U File Server supports SFTP; a division of the most commonly SSH protocol. SFTP is a substitute to FTPS that offers secure file transfers with some more benefits. SFTP communications take place over a single connection, removing the firewall stresses usually related with the FTP protocol. Most windows distributions has the Full-featured SFTP transfer clients, making it a suitable transfer protocol choice for administrators with a different number of platforms to support. Its main qualities include:

Capability to change user passwords through SSH2.

Authentication of public key.

Support for "diffie-hellman-group14-sha1" for SSH key exchange.

Sub-second support for SFTP (versions 5 and 6).

Support for SFTP versions 5 and 6 (via SSH2), in addition to SFTP versions 3 and 4.

Support for "hmac-sha1-96" for SSH MACs.

Added support for aes128-ctr, aes192-ctr, aes256-ctr encryption algorithms in the SSH2 protocol.

Considerably faster and more efficient SFTP file transfers for clients supporting SFTP versions 5 and 6. Clients may execute reads and writes to files of sizes greater than previous SFTP versions (34,000 bytes).

Web Client and Web Client Pro

Serv-U involves a simple, browser-based transfer client perfect for every business environment. The Web Client is accessed through a standard web browser and features an unintimidating, familiar interface. It is a special way for distributing photos and image files with clients and colleagues because of its configurable thumbnail view that allows remote images to be speedily viewed without downloading the entire file.

An added slideshow view provides a fast way to share a group of photos from its newest endeavours. When using Serv-U, photo sharing sites and large email attachments are effortlessly carried out without hassle.

In a business environment, the Web Client removes the need to train users on a proprietary client geared towards power users. It is a best implement for sharing and receiving a couple of files from business associates. Users relate with the Web Client just like a usual web page. Additional software is not required. Cut down on its internal support costs and training time by deploying the Web Client with the Serv-U File Server. The benefits of the Serv-U Web Client include:

Provides a new, Web-based transfer client for the Serv-U File Server.

Provides centralized administration, management, and deployment.

Provides users to easily download, delete, upload and retitle files and to create, retitle and delete folders on the remote server.

Provides full compatibility for end users running today's top operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix and Mac) and browsers (Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari and Chrome, Firefox).

Provides the suitability of the Web and does not include a software where end users can install

File search with wildcard support.

Crumb bar navigation for faster directory browsing.

User messages displayed to a user after successfully logging in.

Upload progress information - something unavailable by most Web-based clients.

Web Client Pro

Web Client Pro offers smart file transfer using a sophisticated Java applet within the browser that can be permitted and disabled at the end-users' discretion. This provides a perfect balance between the ease of use of the Web Client and the advanced file transfer capabilities of FTP Voyager JV. Web Client alone is limited to only single file downloads, uploads, and deletions due to browser restrictions, but with Web Client Pro end-users are no longer held back by those limitations. End-users or administrators can now save time by concurrently uploading, downloading, and deleting multiple files and directories with a single click. The features include;

It has Ability to transfer files larger than 2GB (a limitation of most browsers)

It has Extended confirmation dialogs and options

It has Tree-based file transfer and delete groups

Start, stop, cancel, skip and pause active transfers

Enhanced transfer pane for extended file transfer management

14 Different Languages

With support for 14 various international end users in their native language can use various languages Serv-U. The Serv-U version11.3 offers an extremely distinctive feature through its multi-lingual installation. Many programs these days feature a single installer that contains multiple localizations of the software product. In this way, Serv-U version11.3 is no different as it offers a choice of language when it is first installed. However, Serv-U extends this ability much further than just a unified installer. Choosing a language at the time of installation simply indicate the default language that Serv-U will use when the Management Console is showed. And when clients (or remote administrators) login to Serv-U from their Web browser, they can select any languages that it supported. Full software specification to secure the booking and timing of Internet PCs, Network and Wireless.

Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) has be selected as the software that will secure the booking and the timing of Internet PCs, Network and wireless.

Intrusion Prevention System

Intrusion prevention system (IPS) is a device or software application, which screen network and system events for mischievous activities or certificate defilements and generate reports to an Administration Station. Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS) is an extension to IDS also in addition to screening the network traffic, they can additional block/stop intrusions in upcoming. Intrusion Prevent System can further activate warnings, decline packets and occasionally even reset network connections once any mischievous activity is detected. Sometimes some systems may try to stop an intrusion effort but monitoring system this is neither needed nor accepted of. The main focus of IPS is on recognizing likely occurrences, signing information concerning them, and reporting efforts. Some establishments use IPS for other reasons, which include recording prevailing threats, and preventing persons from breaking safety rules and recognise snags with safety rules, IPS has become a essential add-on to the safety of every organisation. Intrusions Prevention System usually document information connected to detected occurrences, alert security managers (administrators) of significant detected occurrences, and generate reports that is required. Most IPS can also react to an identified danger by trying to block it from occurring. Numerous reply methods, this include the Intrusion Prevention System preventing the occurrence by IPS, Reconfiguring the firewall etc. Full license can be purchase for 75£

Functions of Intrusion Prevention System to the Library:

Intrusion Prevention System would mostly handle the following:

Scrutinising and evaluating end-user and system operations

Susceptibilities on the network and Inspecting of system designs

Skimming the reliability of critical aspect of the system including data files.

Harmonising with the outline of prevalent identified attacks analyses them statistically and report feedback to the manager.

Skimming and checking of the operating system on the network.

Making an evaluation of all unlawful behaviours on the network.

How the Intrusion Prevention System Would Work for the Library

The efforts to go across the firewall are monitored, and Intrusion Prevention System would examine its record. It will get to a certain point in the record were there will be a great amount of request refuse accesses. An alert will be sent to the library administrators a flag event of what has occurred by Intrusion prevention system. This enables the library administrators to gain full control of the system, of actually able to investigate the methods that were used, basis of the attacks, and the hacker techniques that was used.

Where precisely will Intrusion Prevention System be placed on the Library network?

IPS has sensors, and that sensor will be place at all likely access point of the library network, this will ensure if for any point in time any error is detected, an alert will be sent to main administrator console diagram 6 illustrate this.

The library manager (administrators) would therefore require to login and access resolve them, upgrade the sensors with newest updated signatures and change their configuration as and when needed. Specialists in the lea to make the effective use of the resources must analyse the records that get generated.

Firewalls

A firewall is a device that regulate the movement of communications across networks of computers by observing their basis, destination and type - and comparing these with prearranged lists of permissible and impermissible communications. It is a device or set of devices aimed to allow or deny network transmission based upon a set of rules already prearranged and is repeatedly used to defend networks from illegal access while permitting legal communications to pass through the network. As show in diagram 7. Once filters flag any incoming packet, it will decline access for going through the network. Several routers that permit data amongst networks comprises firewall modules and equally, several firewalls can do simple routing purposes. Full license can be purchase for 26£.

Techniques is used by Firewalls to regulate traffic for coming in and out of the network:

Packet filtering – permits only those packets to pass, which are permitted as per your firewall policy. Each packet passing through is checked and then the firewall decides to pass it or not. The packet filtering can be divided into two parts:

1.Stateless packet filtering. If the information about the passing packets is not recalled by the firewall, then this type of filtering is called stateless packet filtering. This type of firewalls is not smart enough and can be fooled very easily by the hackers. These are especially dangerous for UDP type of data packets. The reason is that, the allow/deny decisions are taken on packet-by-packet basis and these are not related to the previous allowed/denied packets.

2. Stateful packet filtering.

If the firewall remembers the information about the previously passed packets, then that type of filtering is stateful packet filtering. These can be termed as smart firewalls. This type of filtering is also known as Dynamic packet filtering.

How the Firewall Would Work for the Library

Combining hardware and software firewall together would make a robust protection both for the wired and wireless Network within the library.

How Does a Firewall Work – Hardware Firewall

A hardware firewall is a design for some specific purpose fragment of hardware that is prearranged to prevent undesirable traffic amongst computers that are connected to the router Local Area Network (LAN) and the Wide Area Network (WAN). Firewall would defend all of the library’s PCs desktop, notebook computers and other devices that are connected to the library’s LAN network from attack through the Internet connection. Network Address Translation (NAT) is an additional level of defence, which is built into the library’s hardware router.

Upon accessing the Internet, a public IP address would be assign to the firewall which would be seen by the outside world but the library’s PCs desktop and notebook computers el ta connected to the LAN side of its firewall will be assigned private IP addresses by the router which would not be seen by the outside world and thus any possible hacking.

Hence NAT changes the library’s PCs IP address for outgoing data to a public IP address. Return response data from a remote server on the Internet and direct back to the public IP address it has been given where the firewall would then translate this back into the beginning PCs separate private IP address and then route the data back to the PC where the request began from.

The hardware firewall can be procured as a standalone item or ordinarily as an integral role of the library’s broadband wired or wireless router. With slight or no setting up needed, hardware firewall can be efficient spot-on out of the box.

How Does a Firewall Work – Software Firewall

Software firewalls vary, a program writing to be installed on a PC or notebook computer meant to work together with the operating system. Devised to defend simply the notebook or PC that it is installed on. Software firewalls enable system to protect against attack by observing all inbound and outbound data through the library’s notebooks or PC or Internet connection or network adapter and prevent any intrusions through the services of a network. Software firewall would integrate defined inputs of a user in the library’s network to permit setting up of printer sharing, file and uphold a policies that instruct what is permissible to pass across unrestricted and what should be restricted access. Once firewall is installed it will be prearranged or program to prevent all traffic and it would have to be instructed to permit the programs that are permitted to have access to the Internet.
