Consumer Behaviour

Patersons was founded in 1996 and began developing the world’s first true SaaS-based global payroll solution integration to resolve the greatest problem faced by global organizations which is the lack of global payroll platform for processing payroll.

Patersons first launched its application and payroll services in the United Kingdom in 1999 and increased customer base across Europe as expansion continues by year 2003. By 2007 onwards, Patersons opened international offices in United States, Singapore, France and China which was a significant step for the company to expand internationally with its payroll services to multinational customers.

In year 2008, Patersons has about 200 payroll provider partners and over 160 countries and also awarded the ISO27001 accreditation in year 2009. Patersons has announced its compliance with ISAE 3402 and SSAE 16 Standards and thus confirmed the company’s commitment to provide customers with systematic processes, improved visibility global payroll services, improved secured global payroll services and accurate global payroll services.

1.2 ORGANISATION RE-BRANDING EFFORT

In year 2012, Patersons re-brands and re-launches itself as CloudPay, a name that will clearly describe its pioneering the payroll services product and PORTRAY the company’s ambition better which is to be the top international payroll services provider using CLOUD-BASED TECHNOLOGIES and services.

1.3 PROPOSED ORGANISATION NEW GLOBAL VISION

In actual fact, CloudPay does not have cloud-based technologies and services as the name itself portray as the system was built and developed back in 1996. Cloud computing in fact is the use of computing software or hardware that is provided as a service over the internet. Cloud computing entrusts remote services with a user's data, software and computation.

There are many types of public cloud computing:

Infrastructure as a service (IaaS)

Platform as a service (PaaS)

Software as a service (SaaS)

Network as a service (NaaS)

Storage as a service (STaaS)

Security as a service (SECaaS)

Data as a service (DaaS)

Desktop as a service (DaaS - see above)

Database as a service (DBaaS)

Test environment as a service (TEaaS)

API as a service (APIaaS)

Backend as a service (BaaS)

Integrated development environment as a service (IDEaaS)

Integration platform as a service (IPaaS), see Cloud-based integration

It is time for CloudPay to have a new global vision in payroll system which is to launch or redesign the entire payroll system with real Cloud Technologies.

2.0 CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR

The fundamental basis for marketing thinking is that the consumer should be at the centre of everything the firm does. While there may be some dissent about whether the marketing concept always applies, for marketers consumer are the key concern. This means that an understanding of how and why people make purchasing decisions is crucial to formulating a marketing plan.

As cited by Blythe, Jim (2008, P9)

2.1 IDENTIFY CHANGES – CULTURAL FACTORS

"By concentrating technology in the cloud, making it available as a service and freeing organizations to focus on business strategies – that’s how the IT industry will once again not only transform business, but business models."

~ Pat Hyek, Global Technology Industry Leader.

In light of continuing use and media attention placed on cloud computing, the study of cultural behaviour in technology innovations remains an important area of research, which helps to understand the organisation intention to adopt cloud computing based on their company cultural orientation. The Marketing Department’s research examines how culture influences an organisation's decision to adopt cloud computing. The research proposes that a higher entrepreneurial orientation will lead to the organisation adopting cloud computing.

Any organisation would agree that cloud computing is a fundamental shift in IT that will alter the technology industry power structure, improve business agility for all industries and increase everyone’s access to computing, storage and communications power. This is the current mind set and cultural factors of all organisations.

2.2 IDENTIFY CHANGES – SITUATIONAL FACTORS

The current system has different ways of delivering payroll services which has evolved throughout the years. Today Cloud computing is the key for CloudPay want to be a system that fits all – meaning fits all country and the approach is not relevant in the current market.

Global payroll will always needs global experts whose experiences have been formed delivering of these services. Process, People, Technology – it is the main factor of successful international payroll and it has to be delivered by the essential people using the essential process with the correct technology.

However, the world of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is not dead yet and investment in the technology should never be replaced. It can be best to be optimised and enhanced.

By using Cloud Technology, CloudPay facilitates better optimisation through dramatically reducing the cost of ownership in a virtualised environment. Software as a Service (SaaS) technology enhances traditional ERP technology by bringing in a huge range of features that is not available before. This new vision of global payroll technology is simple to implement, easily available via the cloud, highly configurable and can be accessed securely in real-time from any device, anywhere in the world.

2.3 IDENTIFY CHANGES – PERCEPTION

The individual client perceive similar situation differently due to difference in the way they interpret information.

There are three different processes which lead to difference in perception:

Selective Attention - Selective attention refers to the process where a client pays attention to information that is of use to them or their employees. A client in a single day is exposed to numerous advertisements but the client is interested in only those which would benefit his company in any way. The client would not be interested in information which is not relevant at the moment. While CloudPay’s technology must be up to date and be able to delivery cloud computing services as promised.

Selective Distortion - Clients tend to perceive information in a way which would be in line to their existing thoughts and beliefs. CloudPay must live up to its’ portrayed name with cloud technology.

Selective Retention - Clients remember information which would be useful to them, rest all they forget in due course of time. There are many outsourcing organisation dealing with payrolls and they are very active in the current market. In any circumstances where clients understand that CloudPay does not have cloud technology, clients will remember other payroll outsourcing organisations and most likely CloudPay will lose some of its clients in near future.

CloudPay needs to work hard on developing cloud computing softwares, which match client’s perception and belief every time. Final purchase decision is taken looking other’s perception of the CloudPay. Post purchase if expectations meet actual performance client is satisfied and more likely to repurchase or recommend the brand to others.

2.4 IDENTIFY CHANGES – MOTIVATION

Various forms of marketing communications contribute by conveying symbolic meanings about who we are and the way we can relate to ourselves and to others in the society. On this basis, products and services can be strategically positioned in competitive marketplaces and marketing communications can at an operational level, benefit from an understanding of the key aspects of motivation theory because specific message appeals can be based on such analysis.

As cited by Evans Martin, Jamal Ahmad, Foxall Gordon (2006, P5)

CloudPay must understand that clients have various needs that must be satisfied at the same time, be it to the employees or the company. If CloudPay uses real cloud computing, the organization could guarantee clients on time savings and total control of their global payroll costs.

2.5 IDENTIFY CHANGES – ATTITUDE

Attitude plays an essential role in influencing the purchasing decision of clients. Individual client create a certain image of every payroll product and services available in the market. Every brand has an image attached to it, also called its brand image. Just like CloudPay will definitely uses cloud technologies.

The appearance, taste, texture, or smell of the item influences our evaluations of products. A good Web site helps people to feel, taste, and smell with their eyes. We may be swayed by the shape and color of a package, as well as by more subtle factors, such as the symbolism in a brand name, in an advertisement, or even in the choice of a cover model for a magazine. These judgments are affected by how a society feels people should define themselves at that point in time.

As cited by Solomon, Michael (2013, P30)

Clients purchase payroll product and services based on their opinions which they form towards a particular payroll product or services. A payroll product might be really good but if the client feels it is useless, the company would never buy it.

2.6 IDENTIFY CHANGES – SOCIALISATION

Cloud Technology uses less energy and therefore helps cut down CO2 emissions.

Cloud Technology can help clients to offer online pay slips which reduces the use of paper dramatically. Over 3 billion people are paid worldwide. If every employee was paid online imagine the cost saved on paper and printing costs alone?

2.7 IDENTIFY CHANGES – ADOPTION AND DIFFUSION

CloudPay payroll system went through a life cycle. Initially, CloudPay payroll system was introduced in 1996. CloudPay payroll system was not well known and expensive plus sales were limited. Eventually it reached a growth phase when sales increase dramatically in 2003. More payroll outsourcing companies enter with their models of the product. Unfortunately, CloudPay reached a maturity stage where little growth will be seen. At the current situation and analysis, CloudPay reaches a decline stage due to lack of cloud computing in its current payroll system.

The diffusion of innovation refers to the tendency of new products, practices, or ideas to spread among people. Usually, when new products or ideas come about, they are only adopted by a small group of people initially; later, many innovations spread to other people.

It is time to build cloud technologies in CloudPay payroll system. Cloud computing is an emerging new computing paradigm for delivering computing services as shown in Figure 1. Framework of cloud system below:

The cloud-computing or virtualization model gives clients access to powerful computers and software applications hosted by remote groups of servers.

3.0 IMPACT ON MARKETING CHANGES

Technology is not how you brand your software but it is more of up-to-date technologies supporting the Payroll Systems.

3.1 CHANGE IMPLICATION - MARKET SEGMENTATION

Whether within or across national boundaries, effective market segmentation delineates segments whose members are similar to one another in one or more characteristics and different from members of other segments.

As cited by Solomon Michael R., Bamossy Gary, Askegaard Soren, Hogg Margaret K. (2010, P9)

Traditional Payroll system first came in as a standalone system on a single client with the client’s PC storing the database. The user is required install of the client payroll application. This type of payroll system has the least redundancy in the case of hard disk crashes.

Thus the Payroll System has been evolved to server-based database system with the client payroll applications accessing to the database. The user is required to install the client payroll application. In this case the database has higher redundancy as the server hard disk is running on RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disk) and cluster-based.

The Payroll System has also evolved into a Web-based system whereby users do not need to install the payroll application into their client PC. As long there is a web browser in the client system, the user are able to log in and process the payroll.

CloudPay have to be fully evolved to be running on cloud. CloudPay should not be managing on web based payroll engine but in cloud computing as it allow users who have internet access to log in and process a payroll. With cloud technology, user can even run the application on java enabled mobile and tablets. Via cloud technology, CloudPay can guarantee a no downtime system as cloud services do include failovers of server and internet connections.

3.2 CHANGE IMPLICATION – PRODUCT

With CloudPay using cloud computing, more and more competitors are using cloud technology for their local payrolls. This will drive the market as due to the easy and convenient way to access the payroll application via mobile and tablets. Clients will purchase the gadgets that will accustom to their daily needs, eg. clients will purchase iPhone, iPad, Androids Phone, Tablets so that on-the-move they are able to access the payroll applications.

3.3 CHANGE IMPLICATION – PRICE

There are enormous implications on the environment globally, in terms of reducing energy consumption if using cloud computing. If CloudPay embraces cloud technology to leverage all the advantages of hardware and hosting efficiency, CloudPay will achieve by using a "virtualized" environment.

Virtualisation cuts down on the power consumption and servers needed for the application, which allow CloudPay to deliver an environmentally friendly product that is also cost effective for the clients.

Most payroll systems only utilize a very small amount of their capacity (approx. 8%). This virtual environment also facilitates what is called an elastic cloud so that when more servers are needed at month end processing, they could be deployed on demand, and then capacity reduced during other times of the month. The organization should only pay for what they use, resulting in greater savings and efficiencies, which can in turn be passed onto the clients.

With evolved of Global Payroll Systems, there definitely will be impact to the market and how much profits will be earned through different technologies involved.

3.4 CHANGE IMPLICATION - PLACE

CloudPay has own datacentre that hosts the payroll server. In the event of a server down or internet connection issues, the engineers need be present at the datacentre to resolve the issue and thus there will be a downtime.

CloudPay should place the server in cloud service provider datacentre. In the event that there are internet issues, cloud service provider has internet redundancy protocols in place that there will be Zero downtime. In the event there is downtime for the server, the server can be brought up within seconds with previous virtual copy of the server as it is on virtualisation. The cloud service provider always has 24/7 engineers stationing in the datacentre to standby to help during disasters.

3.5 CHANGE IMPLICATION - PROMOTION

This new vision of global payroll is simple to implement, available via the cloud, highly configurable and accessed from any device, anywhere in the world, securely in real-time.
