Business environment is a combination of both the internal and external factors that influence an organization operation. The business environment includes factors such as clients, suppliers, competitors, government activities and economic trends. For a company to maximize on its products, the external and internal environments should be analyzed entirely so as to give a sense of direction. The theories of business management organization need to be used for assistance. Finally a plan that clearly stipulates what is required of the company is put down. O2 UK is accompany is a telecommunications, internet and financial services provider in the United Kingdom owned by Telefónica, forming part of its Telefónica Europe division. Just like any other business organization, O2 UK has the both the internal and external environment that affects it. However, these environments were not properly analyzed thus creating some void in the company’s operations.

The internal and external environment

O2 UK has a well-organized form of network service. It provides GPRS, SM, EDGE, UTMS, HSDPA and HSPA networks. These are both 3G and 2G network coverage. The HSDPA and HSPA forms of network coverage are the latest and the fastest currently. We therefore ascertain that the company is way ahead in the level of technology used. With the current technology in phones, people prefer networks that are fast and more reliable to operate in. Video calling can only be possible in 3G networks and since that is the current trend in the world today, the O2 UK Company has made a good process to enable this.

In January 2012, the company announced plans to provide free internet to millions of occupants and visitors in central London. Europe's largest free Wi-Fi zone was launched, along with free Wi-Fi access for anyone on any network in and around every O2 retail store. This Wi-Fi network was free to anyone i.e. for both O2 users and non-users. This was a boost towards expanding the company network coverage. We're launching a hotspot network called O2 Wi-Fi. It's free. And you don’t even have to be an O2 customer to use it.  Even if your mobiles with another network or you get your home broadband from someone else, everyone's welcome (O2 Wi-Fi).

On 20 February 2013, Ofcom announced that O2 had been awarded spectrum in the 800 MHz band for 4G LTE coverage as reported by BBC news. The 4G LTE network coverage is a super-fast wireless network that provides the user with capabilities such as video conferencing, watching TV stations online, and so on. Vodafone is up in the market since it has more subscribers and provides better services as compared to the O2 UK counterparts. If the management of O2 used this theory in their work they could have put extra precautions to curb for an error in case of network complications. But all is not lost since O2 is still in the market and it has a major role to play. It is of much importance that the new management put down a complete plan that would help the company in the coming years. The company’s mission and vision should be taken seriously. The company should put many efforts in risks. The technological department has to put down a plan that outlays all the possible outcomes and ways of containing them.
