OneWelspun PORTAL-

CLAIMS MANAGEMENT

The internship will revolve around the design and development of OneWelspun, the Enterprise Intranet Portal, for the Welspun Group.

Intranet Portal is essentially a web portal which will act as a collaborative environment for employees of Welspun Corp covering all the businesses like Textiles, Steel, Pipes, Energy and other businesses. It covers functions of each of the companies such as Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, Operations, Sales and IT, etc. The portal will be a platform for viewing, posting and communicating and sharing information as relevant to each of the employees and common to entire group.

The internship will majorly involve the development of the Claims Management module of the portal. Claims Management System is a platform for efficient management of claims and the related sales contract between Welspun Corp Ltd. and their clients. The portal will provide a platform where the concerned authorities can check all the provisioned claims, update them and also add any new claim. Moreover, information can be kept up-to-date by easy assignment of claims to a particular sales contract and adding new sales contracts. Thus, whenever a claim is made by a customer, information related to it can be easily available and the application can provide faster processing of claims. Therefore, it will smoothen the Claims Management process.

Goals:

The Claims Management application will automate the process of managing claims in the related sales contract.

It will result in reduced administration and file handling.

Properly managed and maintained information will allow the organization’s claims department and concerned officials to get the knowledge they need and when they need it.

Customer satisfaction with claims handling is a key ingredient to success and must be well managed. It is a major reason for increased renewals, referrals, and recommendations. Thus, reduced paperwork and time involved in coordinating various parties by virtue of the proposed application will thereby result in achieving optimized work efficiency and serving the customers promptly.

It can subsequently help in effective decision making and corporate analytics reporting.

Proposed Methodology:

The proposed method for development is the incremental model. It will involve multiple cycles.

Cycles will be divided up into smaller, more easily managed iterations. Each iteration passes through the requirements, design, implementation and testing phases.

After every iteration, feedback from the user will be taken and appropriately the incorporation will be done in the next iteration.

Problem Analysis:

To design an application for OneWelspun portal to effieciently manage claims in the related sales contracts.

Requirements Gathering:

Detailed requirements gathering will mainly be done by interaction with the users and other concerned authorities.

However, after each iteration feedback will be taken from them.

Design:

The proposed basic design for implementation is as shown in the diagram.

Application

(Claims Management)

SAP

SQL DB

(Claims Master table & Claims-Sales Contract Mapping table)

Mail Web Service

Function Module

(Invoked using RFC--

Exports Sales Contract table)

Development Framework: ASP.NET MVC 2

Programming Language: C#

Client-side scripting language: JavaScript

Development Tool: Visual Studio 2010

User Interface Design: HTML & CSS

Access using LINQ to SQL

Platform: ERP Central Component (ECC 6.0)

Language: Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP)

Connector

Web Service

Design Realization/Implementation:

The realization of the application will be done with Microsoft’s .NET 4.0 framework.

Development Framework: ASP.NET

Programming Language: C#

Client-side scripting language: Javascript

Development Tool: Visual Studio 2010

User Interface Design: HTML and CSS

The application design will be generated based on the ASP.NET’s Model-View-Controller (MVC 2) architecture which is a three-tier architecture that separates an application into three main components- model, view and a controller making the application lightweight and highly testable by providing separation of concerns.

The application will be connected to the database at the backend. The database that will be used is SQL Server 2008 R2. The claims table and the claims-sales contract mapping table will stored in this SQL Server.

The method of accessing the data from the database will be LINQ (Language Integrated Query) to SQL which provides a runtime infrastructure for managing relational data as objects facilitating the ability to query them.

Subsequently, the application will be integrated with Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) using SAP .NET connector 3.0. This will be done to connect the SAP sales contract table with the application.

Platform: ERP Central Component (ECC 6.0)

Language: Advanced Business Application Programming (ABAP)

A web service will be used as an intermediate between the main application and SAP.

The web service will call the function module of SAP using Remote Function Call (RFC). Thus, the function module will export the sales contract table in this manner.

Iteration:

Next iteration will be done after a working setup has been prepared, keeping in mind the different ups and downs encountered during the preparation of the first iteration and feedback from the users.
