This is the collection of process and systems that govern the creation, utilization, and consumption of knowledge in a way that is productive to the society. The concept of knowledge management has existed or has been around for good years. Therefore, the term has very many definitions that due to its ageless and broadness (Award, 2004). Different economists have come up with different definitions for the knowledge management that suite their environment. In my text am going to evaluate the various definition raised to suit the knowledge definition.

A good operational definition of knowledge management is the deliberate introduction of an improved and more effective information environment (Koenig, 1999, p.77)

The first definition states takes knowledge management as the deliberate introduction of improved and a more effective information environment in an organization to suit the operation of each individual (Coakes, 2003). The definition of knowledge management in this context favors labor-demanding organizations where the effort of each individual is very useful in determining the result or total production. It is relevant in the application as compared to theory and is intent to influence and motivate specific individuals and there effort.

[KM is] the capability of an organization to create new knowledge, disseminate it throughout the organization and embody it in products, services and systems. (Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995, p. 58)

The second definition of knowledge management refers it as the capability of any organization to create new knowledge lines that disseminate the different process in an organization. The definition tries to exhibit knowledge management as the influence that embodies in products, services, and systems that a production center has specialized. The definition includes management, administration, and information systems that surround an organization (Award, 2004). It also includes grounds that contribute greatly to research and team work and includes information, and other bodies of an organization. It focuses on the internal effects of an organization to provide an advanced general benefit and promote production. The objective or the assumption is to improve the performance of the organization by enhancing virtues of innovation, competitive advantage, sharing of lessons learned and integration of various departments in an organization.

Knowledge management is the behaviours and processes by which a group of people maintains and increases their personal and collective actionable knowledge to compete, to increase performance and innovation, and to decrease risk. (Parsons, 2004, p. 26)

The third definition describes the process of knowledge management as the combination of behaviors and processes where the participants are expected to maintain and increase their personal and collective knowledge (Coakes, 2003). It intends to compete and increase the performance and innovation and decrease the risk of loses and their probability to occur. The definition according to my personal understanding and interpretation overlaps organizational distinction that focuses by a greater margin the issue of sharing of knowledge and facilitates organizational learning. It concentrates on mechanisms that are research oriented, internalize tacit knowledge, and share it without self-contradiction.

Knowledge Management is about creating an environment that encourages people to learn and share knowledge by aligning goals, integrating bits and pieces of information within and across organizational boundaries, and producing new knowledge that is usable and useful to the organization. (Corso et al, 2006, p. 210)

The forth definition is where knowledge definition takes the role of creating an environment which gives room for persons to learn and share knowledge with goal orientation as the ultimate idea. The definition integrates information within and across organizational boundaries, aims at producing new levels of knowledge, and is useful to the organization in question. This definition is applicable with or without acknowledgement as it is profound to affect the decisions and actions assumed by an organization. This definition emphasizes that that the decisions that an organization take have a profound and long lasting effects and makes sense in recognition and understanding of the processes and actions that affect decision making (Award, 2004). It is possible in improving the quality of processes that in turn improve the quality of results due to improved decision making and action taking by an organization.

Knowledge management is neither a technological application nor computer knowledge. This drive drives to the basic understanding that knowledge management concerns the entire process of discovery and creation of knowledge and dissemination of the same knowledge for the purpose of management development and discovery of the actual action of creation of knowledge. Utilization of acquired knowledge strongly steers to believe that knowledge management is just more than a technological thing but rather a complex element that touches many part that the technology.

According to my feeling, the fourth definition best fits the description of knowledge management. This is because knowledge management is the full utilization of data and information coupled with the persons of the specific line of specialization, competence, and commitment (Coakes, 2003). Currently, knowledge remains the most relevant and sustainable element in the process of production. However, it is the most neglected item in the process of performance, definition, and adaptation of novel situations and the ability to respond to activities. In a holistic view, knowledge is present in ideas, judgments, relationships, and perspectives that influential to various systems. It is the basis for the driver, postindustrial economy, and results from providing a sustainable environment for performance. Knowledge management takes into consideration the special relationships and alliances made in a pooled expertise.

Knowledge management therefore according to me is an intellectual string of assets. Knowledge management prevents the decay of the intellectual assets and enhances the decision management and total production by adding intellectual value to the institution as well as providing the flexibility to the management (Award, 2004). It complements and enhances the organizational initiatives by providing new and urgent focus on the competitive position.

Proper application of knowledge management skills is very helpful to an organization. To enables proper serving of customers and maintenance of the same to remain part of the business. It enables to function with minimum fixed assets and develop culture of development within a limited time (Coakes, 2003). It improves the customer interaction, empowers the employees, and creates an innovation culture, and delivery as well as production of high quality products that satisfy the customer’s demands fully.

Assimilation of this mode of definition for the knowledge management does not in any way influence my decision making pattern. This is because the development of the knowledge management pattern is an idea that arose from community consultation and other disciplines of the society that take the major roles. The researching firms realized the potential in the intranet flavor and linked together to come up with the present formulation. They did not have geographical favor and diverse consolation hence the held view does not actually represent what is in the public domain. They seem to have gained expertise and taken advantage of the intranet connecting across organization and sharing of managerial information that they had. This denies me the evidence to assume the current definition of knowledge management hence view to issues.

Question 2 – Knowledge Management Tools and Techniques

The "tatra owner’s spares club" have features that the owners want and what will favor their customers and members of the club. The structure of the club should be in a made in a way that when the senior officials are getting older, there should be juniors who will be ready to take up the senior positions. The board of directors will consist of major shareholders. The directors will have powers according to their shares in the club. Once a senior stuff is about to retire he/she will have a junior stuff who will take over the job. The junior must have enough knowledge about running the activities. The club’s membership will be at an attractive fee that will entice people to join the club. The fee will also hinder the public from joining (Award, 2004). Members must own a car from the tatra company. They should be able to have time to come to meetings, which will be a month, or should give a notice two weeks prior to the meeting. If a member will misses a meeting, he must pay a fine of ten percent of the total membership fee.

The business model will have departments like human resource, finance, membership, mechanical, product promotion, board of directors and the subordinates. People who are experienced in those sectors will be appointed by the directors will head each department. The mechanical department will include it professionals’ engineers. These people will be in charge of all technological activities (Coakes, 2003). The latest technology will have outdated things will not be used. Since tatra car companies is among the oldest vehicle companies in the world does not mean that it is outdated in terms of technology. The clubs’ lawyers will cater Law obligations. The obligations include making contracts, signing members, court cases among others. The external organizations will be other ventures that the club will want to get into.

The possible external organizations will be car racing, golf, mountain climbing, and charity organizations. They will be separate entities but the club will have more than thirty percent of the shares in those organizations. The organizations culture must be favorable to all people. They include no member should have a criminal record, be bankrupt, who are monogamous, no political affiliations, marital status will not affect any member, once a year all members will take part in charity activities. Knowledge management tools/ techniques that will help the organization are as follows.

The activity of reviewing is a starting point, not every knowledge management cycle starts at this point. The reviewing activity is divided into two sub-activities namely; evaluation and monitoring of the performance. Monitoring the presentation of the club requires appropriate monitoring techniques to be operational and in place. The processes will be contingent on measures taken earlier and tailored to them. Evaluation of the performance comes after monitoring to determine whether the implemented enhancement strategies have led to the results anticipated (Award, 2004). Conceptualization is another tool, it is important to have a vision of the knowhow of the organization.

This uses the creation of the club and the resources of management. What, where, which, when, where the knowledge is used, and which role is provided by the organization. Analyzing weak and strong points carried out in various ways. They include bottleneck analysis, and swot analysis. Another tool is reflecting, this phase is for the production of improvement plans that have a chance of succeeding when executing is the data base management system (Coakes, 2003). These include defining and selecting improvements and improvement plans. Lastly, we have act as the actual running of the plans concerns a technique. This belongs to areas that have their own methods tools and techniques for support as information technology, human resource management, and organizational development.
