The feasibility study is a planned introduction review of the facts to see if it is praiseworthy of advancing to the analysis phase. The systems analyst point of view, the feasibility analysis is the most important implement for recommending whether to advance to the next phase or to terminate the project..In order a system to be successful.

The system MUST pass all FOUR tests, Such as:-

Operational Feasibility.

Technological Feasibility.

Economic Feasibility.

Schedule Feasibility .

Operational Feasibility

Operational Feasibility means a system that will be used efficiently after it has been developed. But if the End Users have a complexity with the proposed system, it will not produce any expected benefits.

It depends on several necessary issues .For example, consider the following question below : -

Does management and end user support the proposed system?

Is the current system effectively used?

What end-users may resist or not use the system? People tend to resist change. Can this problem be overcome? If so, how?

Will the end users be involved in the planning phase for the new system?

Will the proposed system place any new requests on end users or require any operation changes?

Are the current work practices and procedures sufficient to support the new system?

Is the new system safe to use, in term with security?

Technical Feasibility

Technical Feasibility refers to the term on equipments or tools recourses needed to build up, purchase, Install, or operate the system.

Consider the following question below : -

Does the restaurant have the required software, hardware, and network possessions? If not, can those possessions be acquired without complexity?

Does the restaurant have the needed technical knowledge? If not, can it be acquired?

Will the current technical resources sufficient for the new system?

Will the technology be useful to the current problems? if yes, what are the advantage of it ?

Will the new system be able to handle future transaction of volume and company growth?

Will the arrangement of hardware and software supply adequate performance ?

Economic Feasibility

Economic Feasibility is to investigation the lifetime cost or benefits of the information of the proposed system. The method is to determine the benefits and investments that are expected from a candidate system and evaluate them with the costs. - Total cost of ownership (TOC)

Total cost of ownership (TOC)

To determine the "Total cost of ownership"(TOC), the cost must be estimated, as following :-

People, including IT staff and end user.

 Estimated cost of software/software development

Cost of the Training that will be provided for the users.

Cost of packaged software/software development   .

licenses and fees.

The estimated cost for postponing the project.

Schedule Feasibility

Schedule Feasibility is the chances of a project being completed within it schedule time frame. If the project has a high opportunity of completion by the desired due date, the schedule feasibility is considered to be high.

Schedule Feasibility ensures that a proposed project can be completed before the project or expertise becomes obsolete or unnecessary.

Can the restaurant or the IT team control the factors that affect schedule feasibility?

What is the conditions that must be fulfilled during the development of the system?

Will the project management techniques be available to coordinate and control the project?

Will a project manager be appointed?

Subject : Feasibility Report of Le Diner Restaurant

IntroductionFeasibility Report of Le Diner Restaurant

Wafiy Afandy conducted and investigated the different system criteria about the current system and also for the proposed system. The main purpose of the feasibility report is to implement for recommending whether to advance to the next phase or to terminate the project..In order a system to be successful. It must support all the different feasibility.

Existing SystemFollowing is the background of the existing system , problem of the existing system and explored the potential benefits of the new system relevant .

Background

The current system in Le Diner Restaurant is a paper-based system. All fresh food items, such as beef steak and vegetables are delivered daily to the restaurant. Other than that, some items such as napkins, Coffee powder, are ordered and delivered as needed. All the goods will be sent to the backdoor of the restaurant and the owner will check all the goods ,and updates it into the log book. The stock log book helps the owner to trace the inventory stock. The log form will be updated nightly after daily sales have been tallies.

There are five waitresses each located in different allocated tables. The waitress will take the orders from the customers and write it on orders tickets, The orders tickets will be send to cash counter to total up, then the waitress sent it to the kitchen where the orders are prepared. Once order is prepared, the waitress will deliver the food and the order ticket will be placed in order ticket box. The owner will review all the tickets nightly and makes adjustment to the inventory.

Problem

Although the current system is inexpensive, it does encounter several problem and restraint such as:

The cash register is not capable of capturing point-of-sale information.

Current operation, such as the inventory control, customer ordering , food preparation system are paper-based, errors occur frequently These errors affect the supplier delivery order and customer order.

Inaccurate inventory has cause inconvenience, creating out-of -stock problems and impacting sales.

Low in stock inventory are not reordered in a timely fashion.

Order delay`s and the customer must wait for a certain time of period to received their order`s, this is because orders tickets are misplaced or the orders ticket either never sent to the kitchen for prepare or the waitress never sent it into the order tickets box.

Benefits of a New or Modified System

The new system will be using a Java Web framework and it will performed over the internet. A computer and an internet host and connection will be among the things required for this system. The system is more efficiently than the current system. Reports and documents can be store and easier updated as you can search and sort far more efficiently than the current system. All inventory stock items can be monitor ,in order to trace all the inventory ongoing and outgoing within the restaurant .With the new system ordering will be more efficient and less time consumable .The new system will increase flexibility and efficiency of operation by elimination human errors. and time consumable.

Feasibility of a New or Modified System

Operational Feasibility

The increasingly distributed of the restaurant puts a most excellent on high performance execution. which means to operate quickly, flawlessly ,and profitably at every level. It is about more than how the employees perform and how the proposed system perform.

The new system will come along with

File tracking system.

Ordering and Bill system.

Material Management System (MM)

File Tracking system

A File Tracking System is to track all the report or document of the restaurant that had been created. In order to use this system, you need to transfer/Create a file in the system itself. Once you save all the reports and documents into this system, all will be secure within this system. You can queries anytime you want.

Ordering and Bill System

Ordering and Bill System is to track or view the customer order .With this system all the waitress will no longer sent all the order detail to the kitchen .Waitress just simply enter all the detail via external devices such as a PDA/Tablet devices.

This allow all the customer order information to go straight into the kitchen so chef can view it through a monitor screen. In the same time all the orders will automatically calculated and will sent to the Cash register. This method will make the waitress service more efficiently.

The system will provide the user with the following information:

Order Number/Order Duration/Table Number /Bill Detail/Date and Time .

Material Management System (MM)

In Material Management System (MM) there are several function such as:

Purchase Order

Purchase order will be create basis on the Purchase order print out from the current Le Diner format .During the Goods Received Function(From supplier) user can enter this purchase order number and system should validate this purchase order details.

The following details need to be entered in the system:

Purchase Order Number/ Purchase Order Date, Supplier(Vendor) Details / Buyer (Store) / Deliver Address / Bill To Details, Quotation Number , Item Details (Code/Description/ Quantity/Unit Price/Due Date)

Inventory Stock

Inventory Stock will allow the user to keep track and update all the inventory items progress. With this function user can control all the inventory items whereabouts. This is to prevent any human errors.

The following detail need to be entered in the system:

Inventory Number/Date, Supplier(Vendor) Details/Buyer(Store),Item Details(Code /Description/Quantity/Due Date)

Adjustment Stock

Adjustment Stock will allow user to change any stock Quantity or Item Details. This function will be access to the authorize person only. Because of security purposes, user will allow to change any item details within 24 hours.

The following detail need to be entered in the system:

Employee ID Number/Date and Time accessing the system/Item Detail that need to be change/Reason for the item detail that wanted to be adjust.

Operational Summary

All the system that I propose will eliminate all human errors. This system is 100% efficient and secure.

In term of security all the system can only be access within the restaurant itself, so basically using another internet protocol in the restaurant.

The system is involves with computers and is more technologically advance that the current paper base system. I would not expect any major training for anyone that will be involved with this system.

Le Diner restaurant employees will required to learn a little basic staff such as how to operate and updating all the information into the new system. Reports and documents can be generates and be print through the system.

Technical Feasibility

For the new system to work, Internet connection is a MUST to have. Also Le Diner Restaurant would need several hardware and software such as :

Hardware Part:-

Computers:

You only need FIVE computers located in several area in the restaurant, For instant ,In the kitchen area so that Wayne can monitor all incoming customer orders. At the counter area so that the waitress and Gina can view or monitor all complete/incomplete and incoming payment. Lastly Three computers in the office so that the management can easily monitoring all the work progress in Le Diner Restaurant.

Server:

Two servers are needed for this system, In order everything works smoothly. A File Server to control all the incoming and outgoing data and A Printer Server to control all the generated reports or documents. To handle future transaction of volume and company growth.(Both of the servers will be a located in a small server room in the restaurant.)

Cable and Wireless Devices:

Cable will be install at entire area in the restaurant that have a computers. Wireless devices such as Tablet/Personal Digital Assistant only know as P.D.A devices for the waitress and a access point so it is flexible for the waitress to go around taking costumer orders.

Software Part:-

A program called Java Web Start(JAWS):

This program allow the end users to start the software for the java platform straightforwardly from the internet using any web browser.

Economic Feasibility

The new system will also lead to a several costs to make it successfully.

Firstly, the computers required are not currently owned by Le Diner and will therefore be an expense to the restaurant. Those computers will not be expected to be used for many things other than updating reports and monitoring all the work progress, and could be therefore purchased for under or around $ 1200 each.

Cable, access point and printer installment will cost around $200 for whole area of the restaurant. The internet connection will be ongoing cost that is involved, but can be expected to be only around $ 60/month ( this is depends on the internet speed, the higher the speed the more it cost)

Servers will be a little bit expensive but worth to invest in, because with servers it can smoothen all the work progress. Each server will cost around $ 5000 each( this is included a server rack). Devices such as Personal Digital Assistant also known as P.D.A /Tablet will cost around $150 each.

This new system will estimate to be complete within FIVE months and it requirement IT personal/team to develop the system. A programmer will cost $50 per hour. Interface Designer will cost around $40per hour. and a System Analysis will cost around $30 per hour.

After the new system is developed, in order to use the system, A training course must be conducted for all end users that are involved must be train and has a full knowledge of the system. The training course will be $100 per session. One or two session of the training are recommended.

Below is the table that show the estimate total cost within the FIVE months period of the project:

Hardware/Software

In accumulation to costs, Economic feasibility also evaluate TANGIBLE and INTANGIBLE benefits to the company.

Tangible Benefits

Tangible Benefits is a benefits to a person or a company which can be felt and touched or benefits the can be measure in dollars. For examples saving money, decrease in expenses or increases in revenue .

An operating tracking system that improves service and decreases the need for clerical staff.

Order tickets will be change into electronically .

A File tracking inventory control system that reduces excess inventory and eliminates human errors or duplication.

All reports will be done electronically into the system that reduces using paper or log book.

Intangible Benefits

Intangible Benefits is an indirect benefit which can't be felt or touched or a benefits that are difficult to measure in dollars but are important to the company. For examples, Saving time consumable and etc.

Implementation of the proposed system will reduces processing errors.

A User-Friendly system that improves staff job satisfaction.

A operating tracking system that supplies excellent information for marketing decisions.

Improve efficiency.

Decrease response time.

Reduced Expenses.

Schedule Feasibility

The schedule feasibility is will be not much of an issue, based on the requirements needed to develop it. This will make both parties be able to control the factors that affecting schedule feasibility.

The conditions that need to be fulfilled during the development of the system will be as following:

The new system will be develop within the period time that are given that is Five Months .If there are any issue that will effect that project duration period this will lead to a huge issue that will affect the economic and technical feasibility, In order to prevent this happening in the future(if that are any), Both companies will need efficient cooperation and making sure that the project management techniques be obtainable to coordinate and control the project in the effective way.

Both companies will select their own project manager so that both parties will understand the needs and wants for the new system to be successfully implemented .

RECOMMENDATION

The system that I proposed to be implemented, would have to be the web-based system called F.O.M System. F.O.M System is the combination of File Tracking , Ordering and Bill and Material Management System.

The advantages of F.O.M system to Le Diner restaurant would be far more beneficial than any other possible system. With this system Le Diner restaurant will be the most efficiency restaurant that puts a finest on high performance execution. which means to operate quickly, flawlessly ,and profitably at every level of the system.

F.O.M system, would reduce the chance of data loss through physical damage, as the data is secure inside the system and the order tickets can be easily organize as there is no risk losing a sheet of paper anymore.

Customer needs and wants are the first parity for Le Diner restaurant and I am sure when this system is implemented ,the intangible benefits in Le Diner restaurant be increased rapidly.
