Problem Definition

"Does implementation of IT procedures improves the performance management of the employees?"

LITERATURE REVIEW

The company runs an annual performance appraisal system in the organization to evaluate the performance of its employees and to check their contribution towards the revenues earned by the organization. For instance, they consider the number of projects allotted to the specific person and time of delivery, quality of delivery and cost of delivery. This helps the organization to evaluate their contribution to the earned revenues by the organization and the organization returns them with further compensation in the way of bonuses or incentives. This system of performance appraisal is done by the top management with a little involvement of the middle management. The employee’s whole data is provided by the manager and the top management runs the performance appraisal to check whether the employee is fruitful for the organization or not. The employee’s future increment and bonuses are all depending upon the way he works in the current year. The performance appraisal procedure results in determining the future incentives of the employee and his pay scale for the coming year. Moreover the employees are rewarded with shields for better performance for their motivation and satisfaction. Further training is given to the employees for their more contribution towards the organizational revenues. The employees not meeting the performance standards are also given training to groom themselves in the field and to perform the work more efficiently and effectively. Quality work is the prime standard of the organization and the employees are given proper training to deliver the projects within time and the best possible quality of the work is delivered by the employees for which they are compensated and promoted at the year end.

The reduction in stress by the use of IT has been confessed by 75% of the employees working in the organization. The rest say that there is no reduction in the stress. The fact is with the majority that IT reduces the stress of the workers so the organization should implement IT practices to get the maximum out of its workers for generating the highest possible revenues.

FINDINGS

HCS (Habib Construction Services) is actually good for the construction work but within the organization they lack certain core competencies. The employees of the organization are not satisfied with the work practices and the work place environment. The top management is not managing the system of performance appraisal well in the organization that is the main cause of dissatisfaction of the employees. The IT department does not exist there that is the prime reason for the organizational lacking in the IT practices and procedures. The is trying to implement the IT practices and procedures so that the system of performance appraisal is made stronger and efficient which will eventually increase the efficiency of the employees working at different site projects and within the offices of the organization.

INTERPRETATION

It has been interpreted from the above data that the performance of the employees HCS has not been given proper attention for the last few years. The staff is not satisfied from the policies being made in the offices. More than 50% of the employees are of the opinion that IT practices should be implemented in the organization but the top management has not yet shown any hope. The employees of the organization are all well aware of the fact that IT increases their efficiency and productivity level. Moreover they know that after the implementation of IT practices their performance appraisal would be made strict but they are agreed with the situation which shows their level of dissatisfaction with the current performance appraisal system of the organization. The organization may be losing higher generation of revenues because of its dissatisfying performance appraisal system for the employees. The performance appraisal and appreciation is run to motivate the staff but in the current case the employees are being demotivated by the system of performance measurement.

CONCLUSION

It has been concluded from the study that IT implementation is necessary for all the firms especially in the services sector for the performance management of its employees and working staff. The standards held by the practices are easy to maintain and thus the employees can give their full efficiency ultimately improving the level of quality and the satisfaction level of the stake holders. This would give a boost to revenue generation ultimately leading towards higher profit margins for the organization. The organization should implement these IT practices as soon as possible to fill the gap between the employee’s satisfaction that would increase the level of their efficiency leading towards increased productivity. This will ultimately generate maximum of the revenues for the organization.

RECOMMENDATIONS

After the conduct of this study I strongly recommend the organization that they should not only implement the IT practices in their performance appraisal procedures but also organization wide at all the levels and in all the departments. The dependency upon the IT practices has been seen in every field of the business and industry but the services businesses are specially concerned. Therefore the IT based operations will help the organization to fetch the maximum revenues and get the maximum level of the efficiency and productivity of the employees in the organization.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to thank my respected teacher, Sir Asim Butt who has given me this opportunity. It has increased my knowledge about the performance appraisal procedures used in the practical life and the effects of the dissatisfaction of the employees upon the decrease in revenue generation. The study has made me clear how to conduct research surveys and how to analyze the data and then interpret it.
