Now’s a day, computer play a very important role in our daily life every day we also needed to use computer, computer already become the substances that cannot separate from our human being. Besides that, more and more people using the internet to conduct commerce. E-commerce means that the selling of product or services through online. Peoples can manage e-commerce business more easily and faster than the normal business because they only need a computer who’s enables to connect to the internet. E-commerce technology is different and more powerful than any of the other technologies that we have seen in the past century. E-commerce has challenged much traditional business thinking.

You are required to choose an E-commerce website and asses it in terms of seven unique features. Which of the features does the site implement well and which feature poorly in your opinion. Provide your detailed findings and suggestion for improvement?

Assume that, you had bought two products through online. Explain why you choose to buy that product trough online, pros and cons of online purchase.

Introduction to question 1

There were seven unique features of e-commerce technology, is ubiquitous, offer global reach, operates according to universal standards, provides information richness, is interactive, increase information density and permits. All of them were very important for a good e-commerce website. Lack any one of them the e-commerce website could not say as a complete and wonderful e-commerce website. I will choose www.columbia.com as the e-commerce website me wanted to explain the seven unique features and discuss about the e-commerce website it did well and excellent in which features and did poor or not well in which features. Beside that for those it did poor or not well I will give some suggestion to improve it.

Answer of question 1

Columbia is an e-commerce website that sells sportswear, it sell many type of sportswear, and their business was oversea we can their product all around the world.

Is ubiquitous

The 1st feature is Is ubiquitous .Is ubiquitous means that it was available from anywhere and all the time. Columbia did well in this feature. It allow all of it customer buy the product all around the world and any time although it is 3 a.m. and they was at The North Pole, they also enable to buy the product of Columbia thought the website.

Offers global reach

The 2nd feature is offers global reach. Offers global reach means the business is across cultural or national boundaries. Columbia done very well in this features their customer can buy their product at every country. To easy their customer to buy their product it provide many language and the number of language is more than 40 country language such as China, South Africa, Argentina, Canada, Belgium and United Kingdom. The customer can choose the language they wanted to browsed the website and buy the product they wanted.

Operates according to universal standard

3rd feature is operates according to universal standard. It means that it lowers market entry for merchants and search costs for consumers. Columbia did not well in this feature, because although they got search costs for consumers but it did not lowers market entry for merchants. So that I suggest them to add a function that is lowers market entry for merchants to upgrades their standard in this feature.

Provide information richness

4th is provide information richness. It means that the website should be provides many information to make the selling environment more powerful. Columbia also did well in this feature it provides many information of their product like the function of their product and material of their product so that the customers can understand the product more easily. Besides that they also supply the address of the Columbia shop their customer can went to the shop to see the product they wanted to buy.

Is interactive

5th feature is interactive. A successful e-commerce website must interactive and can simulate face-to-face experience, but on global scale. Columbia also well done in this feature, in the website Columbia has separate their product into seven main type, they were Men, Women, Kids, Footwear, Equipment, Collections and Outlet, in each main type got several branch type it easy the customer to search the product they wanted just like they can seen all product of Columbia just a few step. Customers can buy their product all around the world, choose the language they wanted, browsed the website with information richness and seen all the product easily this condition just like they are in the shop of Columbia and face to face to the salesman, and conduct to the salesman by the language they wanted and the salesman provide all the information they wanted.

Increase information density

6th feature increase information density means that the amount and quality of information available to all market participants. Columbia did well in this feature all of the information available is available for all the people who browse the website and fair for all people all of them get the same quality and quantity of information.

Permits personalization or customization

The last feature is permits personalization or customization. It means that the customer can setup the product or information they wanted to see and the way of payment. In this feature Columbia also did well, all of the customer can setup the personalization according to what they wanted.

Conclusion to question 1

All of these features are very important to an e-commerce website. Once the e-commerce website can success done all of these features it was a very successful. Columbia was a nice e-commerce website but it cannot say very successful because although it did well in many features but it still got some feature cannot did well. They should upgrade their weakness features and become a successful e-commerce website.

To know about the advantages of online purchase I will choose two substances to buy and I will explain why I will buy them through online. After that I will talk about the advantages and disadvantages of online purchase with example.

Answer of question 2

The substances I choose to buy online and reason

I will choose to buy a Razer gaming mouse and buying a game name Counter Strike Online. Razer gaming mouse was very famous, the reason I choose to buy Razer gaming mouse thought online is because there are no a shop got sell Razer gaming mouse near the place I living. If I wanted to buy just got two choices one is buying online another is going to Kuala Lumpur to buy it. Besides that, the price of the Razer gaming mouse buy through online is cheaper than buy at shop. The second substances is Counter Strike Online it was a new launches online game, it transform form a game name Counter Strike. Because it was a new game not every country also got sales this game for Malaysia there was only one way to buy this game, it was though online purchase this was the reason why I choose this game to buy though online.

Advantages of online purchase

The 1st advantage of online purchase is save time, as all we know time is gold online buying can help us save time we no need went out to the shop to buy things we wanted only needed stay at home and just press a few button, we also can save fuels uses by car to go to the shop. The 2nd advantage is payment is easy. We only need give the bank account then the payment is done it is more easy than we carry a lot of money to the shop. The 3rd advantage is can buy the substances all around the world. As long as the substances got sales at the e-commerce website we can buy it whatever the substances at where we also can purchase it. The 4th advantages the purchase available time is all the day whatever it was midnight twelve or morning four we also can purchase the substances we wanted.

Disadvantages of online purchase

The 1st disadvantage is identity theft. When we are online purchase something there may got some hacker will hack our Id to do some illegal things. The 2nd disadvantage is the substances we purchase may not delivery. Sometime we purchase something from online we already pay but we did not get the substances because of delivery lost or non-delivery. 3rd disadvantages is there may be credit or debit card fraud. When we purchase something through online and pay by credit or debit card our card may be get fraud. Our money will lost by no reason and when we known this already late. The 4 disadvantages we may be get the substances is no quality and may be different from the website when we order it.

Conclusion for question 2

As a conclusion online purchase can give us a lot benefit but if us careless when using it, it also will bring a lot of disadvantages to us. To prevent this we must careful when we purchase online and we must set our personal security like firewall when browsing website. So let we be a clever consumer gain all the benefit and avoid from all the disadvantages.

E-commerce is a very useful subject for us to facing the world today with advances in technology. If we lack of knowledge about the e-commerce we may easily out of line with the community. From this assignment I get a lot of new knowledge about e-commerce and can known more deeply about e-commerce. I get the knowledge about how the seven unique features play their role in e-commerce website. Beside that I also get known more advantages and disadvantages of online purchase.
