INTRODUCTION

United Arab Emirates sometimes simply called Emirates or UAE, an Arab country located in

southeast of Persian Gulf and sharing its border with other countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran,

Oman and Qatar. Its federation of seven Emirates each of which is ruled by its hereditary Emir

and select one person as member of federation.The Unites Arab Emirates consist of seven

emirates; Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujaira.

1n 1971 six member joined the union and 7th member joined in 1972. Enhanced oil recovery

techniques continued to support strong crude oil production totals in 2011.

Rapid growth in domestic energy demand over the past few years has caused the UAE to become

a net-importer of natural gas.

Alternatives to hydrocarbon-based electricity generation are making gains in the UAE, including

the use of nuclear and renewable energy technologies.

HISTORY

Human beings started to live in UAE from 5500 B.C. Where the civilization in the north west

named as Mesopotamia and most common work of these people were trading of copper from the

mountains of Hajar which was transported by the camels.

In 630 because of Holy Prophet Muhammad converted the religion of these people into ISLAM.

The major war fought at Dibba in which non-Muslims are totally defeated and triumph of Islam.

PEARLING INDUSTRY

In the 19th and 20th due to the progress of pearling industry was the major source income and

employment to the the people of the Persian Gulf. Because it was the main source of wealth and

from the economy point after the First World War had a great impact on this industry and almost

destroyed it in the Second World War because of the imposed of the heavy taxes by the newly

Government of India .

The energy resources which we now see in the UAE these are not as much as we see before the

Union , progressing as it is now days

BEGINNING OF OIL ERA

Firstly oil was discover in Abu Dhabi in 1950s. In 1952 a Trucial states Council was formed.

When Zayed bin Sultan became ruler of Abu Dhabi Britain loss their interest and because of this

Bahrain and Qatar joined Trucial States. The first oil company carried out survey in 1960s and

first cargo which is exported from Abu Dhabi started in 1962. The ruler of Abu Dhabi , Zayed

bin Sultan Al Nahyan considering this a great source of income and undertook huge construction

projects like schools, hospitals, housing and roads. Later in 1969 the ruler of the Abu Dhabi

Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum use this oil revenue in improving the life of this people.

AFTER UNION ENERGY RESOURCES

As we know human beings for living purposes is always in search of new energy resources. Due

of negative impact on environment and great cost of some of energy resources are not being

used. Now we are benefiting from the sunlight heat which is renewable energy source. These

renewable energy resources are great of income for most of the countries in this era so this is

effectively used in most of the oil rich country.

Gas reserves in the United Arab Emirates is the fifth largest in the world and is at sixth number

in the world for oil producer. This is giving a support in the country economy for its growth and

is also a good distributer in the world energy market. UAE also exports the crude oil unlike USA

its not as big exporter. Government policies in UAE are very aggressive and because of this oil

export contributes only one third of the country economy. Now in UAE many works are being

started related to renewable energy resources , energy efficiency program and clean energy

initiative.

The Ministry of Energy started strategic plans regarding water and electricity industry

development and other renewable energy resources in 2008. For the support and help of the

private investors this plan takes 16 main initiatives for the development of this sector. Protection

of country natural resources government describe its policy early in 2007. Muhammad bin

DhaanAl Hamili who is Minister of Energy said, "Renewable energy research initiatives will be

among the Ministry’s prime objectives". The Ministry is making efforts to collect the relevant

information and support the research programmes.

The main focus of the Ministry of Water and Environment is a three years plan which is mainly

related with the desalination of water and environmental issues also the Ministry focus on the

environmental security and promote the development of natural resources in Emirates. The fines

for violation of environmental guidelines are also one of initiative.

OIL AND NATURAL GAS

Resource development and Oil Production of each emirate is controlled by itself. 92.2 billion

percent of oil barrel of UAE is present in Abu Dhabi , 4 billion barrel in Dubai , Sharjah 1.5

billion and al-Khaimah with100 million barrel. Abu Dhabi always welcome private investors for

the oil exploration and production sector.

The crude oil which the UAE is exploring 40 percent is exporting to Japan and due to this it is

largest customer of UAE. Natural Gas is also primarily exported to Japan and is the world largest

buyer of liquefied gas, because of large amount of transportation cost UAE export oil to USA is

very minimum. UAE is important oil and gas supplier in the international market and is in the

second number after Saudi Arabia because of its spare oil production capacity.

The first major project of cross-border energy deal in which UAE import gas through pipelines

from Qatar is Dolphin project. Qatari natural gas delivery began to start in summer 2007.

SECURING OIL SHIPMENT

UAE government is now studying for the development of oil pipelines to enhance the security of

supply that would bypass Strait of Hormuz. Now a days the oil which is mostly shipped we

mostly use tankers and with this pipeline we can deliver as much as 6.5 barrel of oil per day. Due

to this pipeline UAE exports 60 percent to Fujairah port on the Gulf of Oman.

UAE significantly increasing its production of oil to meet the needs of global energy market

.During last five year oil production of UAE is increased upto 31 percent which in many other

countries decreased.

ELECTRICITY

Electricity demands in UAE reaches to massive because of economic growth. The current

estimates which indicates that electricity require double in 2020. Now the government of UAE is

taking other initiative to compensate usage of its resources because they are depleting it at very

fast rate so they are going to do work on the alternative energy resources.

NUCLEAR ENERGY

UAE is now working on a peaceful, civilian nuclear energy project that holds safety, operational

transparency and nonproliferation. In developing its nuclear energy program UAE does not make

it vague to the other world for the peaceful objectives. The two parts nuclear fuel cycle is used

for non peaceful purposes and for this they release a documents in April 2008 in which they

committed many things. At the same time UAE worked with the International Atomic Energy

Commission and other governments including United States.

SOLAR ENERGY

To produce the electricity through non conventional energy sources the largest Solar Energy

plant is inaugurated in Abu Dhabi.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

As we know that oil and gas are present in excess amount in UAE but despite this the

government is working on the alternative energy resources. Among which reducing the carbon

emissions and master environmental plan is well known which ensure the growth which

protecting the environment. Electricity play major role as transportation is increased.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY SOURCES

The total primarily energy consumed is in the form of fuel. Primarily loss of energy is in the

form of transportation, inefficiencies, heat loss and friction. The table below describe the

production and consumption of energy from 1971 to 1999.

These are the energy resources of the UAE their value and unit is written in the above table

which it is producing per year and the lower table gives the production rate, export , electricity,

primary energy and capita from the year 2004 to 2010. In which total change in six year is shown

and the production increase in these year is 7.5 percent. Similarly export is also increased to 11.3

percent and amazingly 70 percent increase in the electricity.

UAE FUTURE ENERGY PLANS

Academic Institutions in UAE like University of Sharjah and UAE University have started and

introducing energy-related disciplines in study to increasing importance of energy sector. For

this purpose new Institute of Technology in Masdar and Petroleum Institute and Khalifa

University in Abu Dhabi established.

. These universities are also giving short courses of engineering for knowledge

in energy economics, policy and emerging technologies, hydrogen economy, nano-

wire batteries and energy conversion.

The Prime Minister of the UAE & Dubai ruler inaugurates new plans to

produce power by 2030 and in this regard solar energy and wind energy are quite popular. Due to

unavailability of waterfall Hydro energy is not used in this region but it provides 4 % of

energy in European Union. Geothermal energy is another form of renewable resource that is

available in this region. Significantly other renewable energy resources are biomass, organic

Materials, plants and agricultural wastes.

Ocean thermal energy conversion is also renewable energy resource in which the surface of the

ocean which is exposed to the sun and temperature of the ocean depth a heat conversion process
