1) First of all, it is important to define what is public speaking. During public speaking, we deliver what we want by using words to audience or simply we can share some information with audience. Interest to public speaking grows. There are various types of public speaking situation. Let's analyze each of them.

One type of public speaking situation we discuss is ceremonial speaking. Ceremonial speeches are made during various important events and occasions. By the way, audience loves this kind of speech. Ceremonial speech is usually made by one speaker and so this kind of speech is considered as the most personal one. And as these speeches are personal, they are effective most times. During ceremonial speech, speaker can tell audience about a particular episode from his life and tell people various stories, both sad and happy, depends on the mood,to establish emotional connection with audience. Example: speeches at weddings and birthday parties.

Next type is persuasive speech. As it is clear, by these emotional speeches we try to persuade, to influence our audience and so to affect their opinions and decision-making. Actually, a speaker makes this kind of speech for some purpose. This is the most difficult kind of speech as audience may totally disagree with speakers. However, the point here is a mental struggle with audience, but speakers must not hurt audience. Speakers have to show their passion and strong character during persuasive speech. Example: speeches made by politicians, religious people and sales people from some firms.

Next type of public speaking situation is demonstrative speaking. This kind of speech entails some demonstrations or simply playing roles. Speaker has to act to show/demonstrate what he/she wants to. These speeches have to be clear, so everyone in audience understands us. Speakers must tell about some actions and they have to perform these actions to audience during speech. Performance is the main point here. If audience learned how to do something after speech, we succeeded. Example: role- playing speeches, where speakers have to teach audience about some actions, how to perform they.

2) Making speech in front of large audience always is connected with some level of fear and unnecessary nerves. So,there are some challenges in public speaking. While making speech in front of large audience, we almost always experience the feelings of anxiety and fear. So, this is the first challenge: our nerves that prevent us from making a good speech. According to "The challenge of effective speaking" textbook, the level of fear we experience while making a speech is called "public speaking apprehension". So, nerves and fear were my first challenge. The fear we experience is connected with anxiety. There are some cognitive, physical and emotional indicators of fear. For example, we turn pale, have increased heartbeats and shakings, start to forget our speech, talk about nonsense (physical +cognitive).Emotional indicators include the feelings of anxiety and worry("The challenge of effective speaking", 2010; p 21).We can be nervous both before making our speech and while making our speech. So, book defines anticipation (before speech) and confrontation (during speech) phases of fear("The challenge of effective speaking", 2010; p 21).Another challenge, according to "The challenge of effective speaking" textbook, is the lack of practice, experience and confidence. Actually, public speaking apprehension comes from these problems. I had serious problems while making my first speech, so it was quite unsuccessful. I had problems because I was inexperienced at that time. I had some challenges during my first speech, because I lacked confidence. Confidence gives us an opportunity to control ourselves, to control what we say and so to control the whole our speech. The challenge here is that we lack confidence due to lack of practice and inexperience, for example, we lose control over our speech and can fail in front of audience. My third challenge was the level of my public speaking skills. It is hard to be a good public speaker if you do not have appropriate skills. This challenge is also discussed in "The challenge of effective speaking" textbook. We understand that the "skills deficit" can create many obstacles("The challenge of effective speaking", 2010; p 23).If we are enough unskilled, we will face some big problems during the preparation to the speech. It also was my challenge during my first speech. I could not prepare well enough and this showed itself during my speech. I lacked eye-contact. The major problem for me was the design of text and using appropriate words(word choice challenge) so that the audience will understand me. So, I can tell that my third challenge was to understand and analyze the audience because I lacked analytical skills in this area. So, my fear arose from this challenge as well.

But I worked on myself and as time passed I felt that I do not experience any serious challenges any more. So, first of all, in order to tackle my problems ,I trained, practiced and worked on myself a lot in order to gain experience as a public speaker. I tried to tackle the points from which my fear actually arose. I began analyzing the audience to improve my word choice in the text. I practiced at home: made my speeches aloud in front of mirror, which gave me a chance to learn how to control emotional part of my speech as well as increase confidence during my speech ( it is called "visualization" in the textbook). I changed my speech style in the way I feel positive. Then, I tried out some exercises before making my speech in order to feel relaxed and this helped to control my pace. I tried not only to perform in front of audience, but kinda communicate with people as well. Finally, I devoted sufficient time to learn eye-contact and this made me feel more confident.
