College:

Effects on Academic performance

College life can be nerve-racking, although it is without doubt one of the most unforgettable experiences in one's life. It corresponds an important develop moral stage for both late teenagers and young adults. College Students deal with so much hardships and there are many circumstances that make it harder to concentrate with school and to have a sense of balance in their daily lives. Every college student know it is important to be able to perform their best in school in order to obtain a great education. It is the little things that seem to contribute in which they end up affecting a college student's academic performance. The major factors that affect college students are a lack of motivation, lack of sleep, lifestyle and self-responsibility, relationships, student involvement, and stress all play a role in affecting the student. The major reason is without motivation within a person this will make it harder for them to drive forward and dive deep. By not having the necessary amount of sleep the brain and body don't perform at it's peak and can also shut down. A student's daily lifestyle can surely affect the student such as not getting enough nutrition Any type of relationship can have an impact on their self-esteem and emotional health. Their involvement in school whether it is an sport or club plays a role. These are some of the main circumstances in which they play a vital role in affecting a college student's academic performance.

A lack of motivation will affect the performance of the student because they don't have a sense of direction to move their lives forward. Many young students who are away from their families have some difficulties coping within their new place and conditions for a university education. A student without the motivation will make them harder to succeed in school. It will lead to laziness and procrastination in the student, which will not only lower their performance but their sense of will to obtain a great education. Having motivation is very important to students in college because it will fight against procrastination. Why is this found important? By not procrastinating, it will prevent overstress in a person. Another factor that is important to the basics of life is having enough sleep and energy for the body to function well.

Having sufficient sleep is vital for a student to perform their overall best in an academic environment. Thus their anxieties can increase, may have poor quality sleep, due to new life style. Sleep quality and anxiety is important because they affect the academic performance directly. For example, student who decide to do some last minute all night studying for an exam the next day and try to cram everything without sleep will effect the way they will do on the exam. According to the scholarly journal Health Med, "Anxieties can change and have pitiful quality sleep due to the brand-new lifestyle" ( Alaettin 2251). The reason being is sleep and anxiety are both important factors because they affect academic performance in a direct way. The daily lifestyle and the actions of the student makes influences the behavior of the student.

Students who different lifestyle and they also need to accept responsibility to take care of their bodies. As stated by the scholarly journal HealthMed, " The high incidence of poor sleep quality in freshman is a result of their responsibilities in a starting a new educational life and brings a new lifestyle and adaption problems with irregular studying and resting patterns" ( Alaettin 2250). Most college students are away from their home have some difficulties adapting to their new environment making this harder for them to accept responsibly. The source give great reasoning in how the environment impacts the students at college through there data. When students move out from the family home, the lifestyle of the student changes drastically to new forms It is very important to be to easily adapt to a new living environment because it will dictate all daily actions. For example, my friend has always lived in with parents and always forces to obey by his parents rules, and never had the ability to live independent and accept personal responsibility. Now that he is in college, in lives in his environment full of freedom and a sense of responsibilities. It took him about to two weeks and a half to finally find his lifestyle. His grades were affected because of this due to the fact that he was always late to his class. In college, it is important to be able to have moral and social support from friends and people because it enhances a student's life.

Some studies have shown that the amount of social support from the university and outside contributors like family, friends and mentors can make a huge impact on a student’s success. Assistance such as academic, emotional, personal and financial help are enormous components in the success of a college student. The years spent at college can be a very nerve-racking and life-changing experience, having your family and close friends, along with the university to have moral support is crucial. One great example is myself. I was pledging for Sigma Delta Alpha and my grades dramatically important because the fraternity thrive for academic excellence. The brothers of Sigma Delta Alpha where always there to support whenever I needed. If the student has a family that involves his or her own children, the support of everyone is needed even more, to achieve the goal to graduation. Another cause that is also considered to be a leading influence is the being of the significant other. When college students are active in a relationship while college, one might be strained to decide either studying for college or spending a time period with the significant other, and increases high sums of stress. The commitment to the relationship is also be a component that shall be taken into consideration. The student who is entangled in an exclusive relationship differentiates from the student active in a casual relationship. When students are busy, they tend to get impacted from the time consumed away from academics and thus can impact them in a great or bad way.

On a every day basis, college students are faced with problems of curiosity such whether one should study or not study. Many times these decisions are affected by external causes that are beyond the control of the students. Students who are involved in school are most likely to be prosperous in college. Whether it is by joining a club or intramural it can influence the performance of a student. As stated by Norris in the Education for Business Journal "Statistics show that students who are more involved tend to have higher grades because they are busy, therefore, they hold great schedules to have well-rounded individual"( Norris 7). Yes, being involved can take away plenty of the time from academics but in the end the experiences can be well rewarding either in a positive or negative way. Some of the most successful people at the University of California, Merced are tremendously involved with the school. Most of those students have amazing grades and hold the highest grade point average. By being heavily involved , they get the vital support they need to assist in academics. This are the people who become successful in business and in the world because they are true leader and not followers. There are many other factors that contribute to the impacts of academic performance.

Different overstress such as managing time, sleep loss, social actions, and for some students even raising children, can all affect their own menace to a student’s academic performance by having too much negative stress. There are many factors that can cause tension in a person and influence a student’s academic performance and therefore affecting the overall G.P.A. The causes include exercise, nutrition, sleep, work and class attendance. In the Loyola University Psychology report, Matthew acknowledges, "As a college student may discover him or herself in a stressful situation such as trying to raise a family, take initiative of job obligations, and at the very time trying to make the most of the college expereince" (Kopfler 1). All of these circumstances can affect the grades of students, which ultimately affect the rest of their existence. Some students may perceive factors such as nutrition, work, social actions, exercise and sleep routines as stressors that they need to overcome in order to accomplish a higher academic standing. On the other hand, other students may not perceive these life situations as factors of stress at all. Stress itself has been proven to be a factor affecting a college student’s GPA. Moreover the way the student perceives his or her stress can determine how much stress the student is actually under.

There are the more potential circumstances in which affect a college student, on the other hand students whose academic performance is affected do not take these factors in consideration. They will rather find these factor to serve as positive impact while they are in college. Stress, which is impacts a person, tend to affect everyone; however, I know some college students who have never had negative stress while in college and they actually live with positive stress. It is great that people who do not getting affected by the criteria that was mentioned.

In conclusion, these are some of the main factors which contribute in the impact affecting a college student's academic performance. However there are many other factors that can also have a much negative influence to a students live and daily actions but this are the most impacting. A factor which happens to be the most important in impacting academics is the motivation within a student. Motivation is important because it makes the person move forward and have a sense of direction. Sleep another necessary thing not only for a college student but for life. The lifestyle of college student affecting many things that students choose to take. This dictates many actions such as deciding whether to study for a exam or go out partying. It is important have moral support and not being lonely. Why because they can become psycho. By being involve in school, students get the connections to have their grades improved. This are some of the major circumstances that affect students as a whole.
