Top notch Recruiters who know their stuff and really add value to the process.  To be a great Recruiter today you need to have an exhaustive skill set; excellent sales and marketing skills, great researching skills, brilliant influencing and negotiation skills, keen networking and information sharing abilities, technological astute and much more.  To continue to thrive in today’s marketplace as a great Recruiter, when technology is opening up the communication and information sharing channels, and job seekers and businesses are looking for more transparency and value add, we all have to rise to the challenge and lift the bar..

Recruitment marketing used to mean writing job ads and placing them in newspapers. Today, it covers a wide range of disciplines that includes creative, copywriting, SEO, web analytics, pay per click, video, blogging, and social media marketing.

Recruitment, as a human resource management function, is one of the activities that impact most critically on the performance of an organisation INTRODUCTION

. Asthe job market becomes increasingly competitive and the available skills grow more diverse, recruiters need to be more selective in their choices, since poor recruiting decisions can produce long-term negative effects, among them high training and development costs to minimise the incidence of poor performance and high turnover which, in turn, impact staff morale, the production of high quality goods and services and the retention of organisational memory.Acquiring and retaining high-quality talent is critical to an organisation’s success

proper employment planning and forecasting.

Change management:

Identify the changes required (a role here for SWOT and PEST analysis)

Determine the major issues

Identify and assess the key stakeholders

Win the support of key individuals

Identify the obstacles

Determine the degree of risk and the cost of change

Understand why change will be resisted and how it can be managed

People are the key factor in overcoming resistance to change. The successful implementation of new working methods and practices or integrating new businesses into a group is dependent upon the willing and effective co-operation of employees and management.

Employees need to be clear about what a change involves and how they are involved in it:

What is involved?

What are the proposed changes?

What is the timescale?

Why should we do it?

What will the major effects be?

Various techniques can be adopted which help ease a change process, including:

Cross-functional teams

Stronger internal communication

Negotiation

Action planning

Appointing "change agents" or "champions of change"

And a certain amount of compulsion manipulation and coercion

The trick is to help employees and managers accept change more easily: top management need to:

Act decisively – demonstrate momentum

Consider how they will be affected

Involve them in the change

Consult and inform frequently

Be firm but flexible

Monitor the change

Communiction skills, industry breadth, ;eadership skils, managing multi diverse teams

Employee engagement

Employee relations

HR as a service provider

Strategist

Consultant

I’ve been really fortunate to have a really broad HR career. So I’ve worked in Learning and Development, I’ve had some experience of recruitment, really generalist HR. I’ve carried out a corporate role outside HR but worked both within in it as well. I also have employee relations experience, strategic planning, and I’ve spent some time in IT and finance as well.

To succeed in HR you’ve got to be a really good communicator. You’ve got to really like getting performance out of people. You’ve got to be pretty resilient as well. It’s a tough place to be, people are very very different, so you’ve got to be able to have the inner strength to deal with that as well as be quite, as I said, business-focused, a bit commercial in your approach and really good I think about planning and seeing some of the long-term future of your organisation.

The most difficult decisions are the ones that affect people's lives. We never forget that we're dealing with individuals, but my top priority has to be the lifeblood of the organisation. There will be more hard choices when the next round of spending cuts hits home. In Surrey we've always been innovative about delivering value for money and I'm confident we'll find a way through.

I enjoyed psychology, and any opportunity to engage and energise others in taking on a challenge, so starting a career in HR was a conscious choice.

Go ahead, you won’t regret it. You’ll have an insight into the organisation and its people in a very privileged way. Both the organisation and the people will trust you with their secrets; how you manage this gift will define you and your success. To succeed you need to be commercially minded, principled yet flexible, and have a curious nature.

I think that the toughest (yet most worthwhile) part of the job is supporting employees when they are going through tough personal times (such as debt, personal or family illness, or grief) or when they’re facing intense professional challenges, like an international move. As a profession we are privileged to be trusted in this way and, liaising with the appropriate resources, we can provide much needed support and structure.

Implementing restructuring with probable redundancies is always challenging, but there is the opportunity to support your colleagues with the most professional communication, support and counsel throughout; and to ensure that respect is always sustained

At times HR can be considered as a service provider and lack an equal voice at the table. This can get frustrating, and convincing the organisation of the benefits we bring can be challenging. Although we have started to see more commercially focused HR organisations, the key to succeed is to speak the language of the organisation so people understand you.

So anyone who has an interest in shaping organisations, has a flair for people, and enjoys change and diversity in their job, would fit in well within HR.

An HR person needs to have natural curiosity, tenacity, resilience, the ability to influence and network, the ability to analyse data and information, coaching and challenging skills and, most of all, a real passion for the difference that people management and development can make to organisations. You also need to be able to see the big picture. Being aligned with and in tune with external drivers, as much as possessing a developed insight within an organisation, is key. To excel in HR you need to influence, sometimes without being seen to influence, to have political and organisational savvy and to know when to make things happen. It’s a real blend.
