Womens Place In Our Society Sociology Essay

There was a time when people used to think that woman was the hearth. She was considered to be subordinate to man. Her whole life spent in showering upon others. As a girl, she had to serve her parents. As a daughter she had to tolerate the preference given to her brothers. As a wife, she was considered to be the mistress of the young and nurse of the old. As a mother, she had to make sacrifices for the sake of her children. They think that woman is a kind of a slave. They treat her badly. They did not give her equal rights as men. Some people kill them at the time of her birth. They think that she is a burden on them. Some people did not give her share in property. At that time women led their life very hardly.

In the present woman is no longer the slave of man. Man and woman are the two wheels of the same carriage. Both have equal importance according to Islam. "And we have created you in pairs" (THE HOLY QURAN) God has assigned different rules to a woman in life. She has to play different roles in life like a mother, a sister, a wife, a daughter. She enjoys a very high status in an Islamic society.

The problem is that we did not give them equal rights. The position of women in our society is not satisfactory. Most of our women living in villages are uneducated and uncultured. They don't have many of the rights, which men enjoy in village society. Very few women enjoy independent positions as owners of land or property. Women in the villages can't often marry as they like.

The women in the cities are in a somewhat better condition. Some of them can get education and marry on their choice. But women in poor families like those laborers or wage earners live like village women. Most of them work in houses to serve their husbands and take care of their children.

Women are active members of our society, yet we have not succeeded in according them the status they deserve. There is an immediate need to associate our women with all the major development activities in our society. Almost all the women should be educated to different levels. It is my point of view that if you educate a man, you educate an individual but if you educate a woman you educate a family". Therefore, education up to intermediate is quite necessary for both our women and men. "The best judge of whether or not a country is going to develop is how it treats its women. If it's educating its girls, if women have equal rights, that country is going to move forward. But if women are oppressed and abused and illiterate, then they are going to fall behind". (BARACK OBAMA, Ladies' Home Journal, Sep.2008). A great philosopher NAPOLEON said that give me a good mother, I will give you a good nation. This statement is quite true because only an educated mother can look after her children in well manner and they can take part as good person in society and can work for the development of their country. Therefore we should give opportunity to the women to come forward. After getting education, the need for a woman is that, what professions or vocations should select a woman. Who are in a position to work independently or in the company of the members of their family? The answer of this question depends on the general capacities and social circumstances of the women. According to my observation, the teaching profession is the most suitable for the women. At the schools, colleges and universities levels female teachers can teach as effectively as men. Teachers have a lot of advantages. Secondly, the nurses, air line hostess professions and the like are more favourite professions for women. Here womanly attention, care and service are needed which men can't provide so well. Thirdly, with the expansion of commerce, there is a growing demand for saleswomen, office lady clerks, secretaries and managers. Fourthly, women are very suitable performing work in garment, handicrafts and toy factories. They can stitch clothes very well, help in shoemaking and can work at ease and with interest in the fields of their choice like those of cosmetics production, painting and engraving. Women are naturally interested in all the fields of life. Fifthly, the medical profession needs the service of more and more female doctors specially to take care of female patient. We should give chances to our educated women to work in different fields of life. And those women who are uneducated like village women should find it easy to work on village forms with men. Chances should be given to village women to come in cities to study or to learn practical fields of doing agriculture or industrial work.

It has been correctly said that woman is becoming the rival of the man. She has won a great success for the outside world. It will be selfish of a man to say that woman is meant for the home only. Woman is a very important member of her family "Woman is a salvation of destruction of the family. She carries its destinies in the folds of her mantle" (HENRI-FEDORIC AMIEL, Journal, Dec 11, 1872) Women are qualified, they can take part in all types of jobs.

Women should take part in political and social life because women have equal rights as men. Women should be given the right of vote. A women can understand the rights of all women. An educated women can has ability to deal all problems. An educated and brave womam can lead a nation. Women are independent in our society and they can take their own decision. Women should take part in co-curricular activies in which they are interested. Some people think that women should not take part in co-curricular activities because these activies are only for men. They said that in these activies women exceed their limits and they do not take care their dress and other things.I appreciate the thoughts of those people but my idea is that women should take part in all activies because these activities are more important for good health but they should not exceed the limits and pay attention on their duties.

Men should take care of the women as husband, a father and a brother. "When a woman weeps, it is a man's shame" (LEONID ANDREGEV, The life of man) We shoul not treat them badly. Some people think that women is a kind of a slave and they treat them badly. They do not pay attention on their needs. Even our Holy Prophet (PBUH) in his last address said: "Treat women and the slaves kindly". A woman as a mother is a very important member of our society because on other place our Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, "Verily, the paradise lies under the feet of your mother". This shows the importance of a woman.Therefore, we should give the importance of the women. It is their right. Sometimes a man can't support his family due to his small income.Therefore, we should be allowed to a woman to earn money for the support of her family. They can work in village with her husband or in some factory. "If women are expected to do the same work as men, we must teach them the same thing" (Plato, The Republic) . A woman can play an important role in the development of a nation or a country. A woman is a back bone of our society.

Some people think that woman is awful thing.They concidered her a symbol of degradation.It is quite wrong thinking. My point of view is that woman is a symbol of respect for the whole nation no matter what her role has been in the advancement of a nation.

Islam grants equal rights to men and women. "Women have the same rights (in relation to their husbands) as are expected in all decency from them, while men stand a step above them." (The HOLY QURAN) This is an age of freedom. Islam has clearly defined the status of women in society. However, Islam does not prevent women from serving in various social institutions. Women in our society are allowed to work in all capacities, but they are not allowed to exceed the limits of Islamic rules under the label of emancipation. The Islamic laws pertaining to inheritance give men a higher share. From the social standpoint, as a daughter we find that credit goes to Islam for stopping the barbaric practice of pre-Islamic Arabs of female infanticide. These ignorant people used to bury female daughters alive. The Quran forbade the practice, making it a crime. Surah 81 additionally, the Quran condemned the chauvinistic attitudes of some people who used to greet the birth of a boy with gladness, but sadness in the case of a girl.

Finally I will say that women should get education as they want, they should do jobs on their own choice if anyone wants but a women should keep remember one thing if she will go beyond the limits then surely she will lose too much than gaining a little bit. They should fight for their deserving rights but not exceed the limits of Islamic rules and regulations.
