Introduction

The atmosphere around us is a blanket of air and this blanket of air constitute of various gasses. Together these gases form Air Resources.

Air is an essential gas without which life on earth will become impossible as it contains substances which are essential for living organisms like human beings, plants and animals.

Definition

Earth is covered with the blanket of air, this blanket of air constitutes of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, methane, ozone and water vapours. These all gases in atmosphere are the air resources. The most important ingredient present in air is oxygen. Oxygen is a gas which is important for all living organisms and its presence in air is almost 21 percent. In addition to gas the water vapour present in air constitute of 5 percent of volume of air.

Important Gases of Air Resources

Oxygen

Oxygen is the most important gas that is required by all the living organisms in order to survive. Without the proper supply of oxygen, the life on earth for organisms is impossible. The total percent of oxygen present in air is almost 21 percent.

Carbon Dioxide

According to latest report of 2012 the concentration of Carbon dioxide has reached 391 ppm. Carbon dioxide is an important gas of air as it absorbs and emits infrared radiations. There has been a sudden rise in the concentration of Carbon dioxide due to human activities like burning of coal and smog created by industries. This sudden rise in the level of carbon dioxide has disturbed the regular cycle of atmosphere which is very alarming.

Ozone

The atmosphere also protects life on earth by shielding it from harmful solar radiations. Ozone is a protective layer present high in the air which actually protects the Ultra Violet rays from entering the earth zone and protecting the human life.

Disrupting the earth’s cycle

The geo-chemical balance of earth’s atmosphere is in a delicate balance. The regular cycle or balanced exchange of gases by different organisms has been the process of survival by different organisms on earth. However, now this regular cycle has been disturbed by the human activities. For example Human being burn fossil fuels for producing energy and clearing forest for developing new cities, these two activities in particular has increased the production of carbon dioxide in the air. The rise of carbon dioxide in air is deemed to be the vital factor playing role in global warming..

Air Pollution

The presence of harmful gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other harmful gases in air constitute of air pollution. Most of the air pollution comes from the smoke produced by motor vehicles, toxic chemical fumes from the chimneys of industries, coal or oil burning plants. Moreover Power plants release harmful gases like sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, when the particles of the gases are combined with water vapour in air they create acid precipitation which in result gives out acidic rain.

Primary and Secondary pollutants

Primary pollutants are basically those pollutants which are produced directly from one source and immediately pollute the air. On the other hand when primary pollutants reacts with any chemical or water vapours they cause more chemical and hazardous effect and this chemical reaction between primary pollutants and chemical form secondary pollutants.

Source of Air pollution

There are many sources which play its part in causing air pollution. Air pollution is caused both naturally and artificially. Natural sources of air pollution include smoke from volcanoes and other natural resources. Whereas by artificial source of pollution we mean air pollution caused by humans. The Human source of air pollution involves smoke, burning of fossil fuel, fumes from toxic materials, hazardous gases produced by industries. However, one of the major sources which cause most of the air pollution around the world is the smoke released by motor vehicles. It is motor vehicles that cause more than of 80 percent air pollution around the world. For instance in Mexico that air pollution caused by vehicles is very much intense and perilous that people before going out check with weather forecast if it’s safe for them to go out or not.

Inside Air pollution

Most of the times there is misconception that air pollution only exist out door or outside in open air. However, air pollutants are present inside as well. For example there is a chemical with the name of formaldehyde which is used fabrics to protect them form insects and this chemical is also used on furniture as well, this chemical is one of the those chemicals which causes air pollution even indoor.

Effects of Air Pollution

Air pollution has become a major health problem; it causes illness not only in humans and animals but also damages plants. Air pollution can cause diseases like asthma, coughing, sneezing, eye and throat infection and in some cases the air pollutants can cause lungs and skin cancer, birth defects, brain damages and tumours. According to one survey report more than 20,000 deaths occurs each year which are some hoe associated with air pollution.

Conclusion

Air resources include different types of gases which are necessary for creating a life on earth. These gases include oxygen, nitrogen, water vapours, ozone and other gases. The atmosphere around earth basically constitutes the air. Clean air is necessary for all living organisms. However with the passage of time and advancement in technology humans being is though creating new things but on the same hand is creating so much air pollution that it’s damaging the ozone layer and has also given the rise to global warming. We as the citizens of this planet must first try to produce as little air pollutants as we can and also try to plant more trees so that the plants can produce more oxygen and balance the cycle which humans have disturbed by cutting down trees and producing smokes and toxic materials.
