INTRODUCTION

Information technology is a field concerned with the use of technology in managing and processing information. It is the application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve, transmit and manipulate data. It often in the context of a business or other enterprise. Several industries are associated with information technology such as computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet, telecom equipment, e-commerce and computer services. In the business context, it has defined as the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information system.

Management information system is a business function just as marketing, finance, operations and human resource are business function. It provides information that organizations need to manage themselves efficiently and effectively. Management information technology is a general name for the business function and academic discipline covering the application of people, technology and procedures. It also uses to solve business problem. Most business schools or college have a management information system department.

OBJECTIVE

I choose JobStreet.com Company which manages by Mark Chang Mun Kee because I want to know how information technology and management information system can apply in business. I also want to know how business in world of internet being. Based from what I had read, these companies are a good example or company that can we learn from their experient and knowledge. This company is a success company even the business is still small but it profit and revenue are grow fast.

Mark Chang Mun Kee is the founder of JobStreet.com. He was born in Kampar, Perak. He studies in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in year 1988 at University of Texas. In 1990 he had attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was awarded a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduate he worked with Kendall International as a process engineer. In 1992, he become manufacturing Manager and in 1994 he finally the regional director of sales and marketing for Malaysia.

After years of working in the world of the internet, he starts his dot.com journey with establishment of MOL online Sdn Bhd and today currently as MOL Access Portal in 1995. It was Malaysia first commercial website that offering portal services. It most profitable section which online job listing and today knows as JobStreet.com.

Mark Chang Mun Kee is the Chief Executive officer of JobStreet.com. he also serves on the Boards of Vitrox Corporation Berhad, Innity Corporation Berhad and 104 corporation, Taiwan. Mark Chang Mun Kee also serves as the Penang State Advisor for Persatuan Usahawan Muda Malaysia (PUMM).

JobStreet.com had expanded the operation and services to Singapore, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Japan, and Thailand. JobStreet.com is now Southeast Asia’s largest online employment company. Some of the major customers of JobStreet.com are Dell, Intel, Motorola, Royal Dutch Shell and Flextonics International.

In 2004, JobStreet.com had become a public listed entity when parent company JobStreet Corporation Berhad was listed on the MESDAQ Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities on 29 Nov 2004. On 8 March 2008, JobStreet had completed the acquisition of Autoworld.com.my by Making the Malaysian auto website a wholly owned subsidiary of the company.

Dr. Albert Wong - Chief Product & Technology Officer, JobStreet.com Dr. Albert Wong is the Chief Product & Technology Officer of JobStreet.com. He heads in the Product and Technology department.He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Western Australia in 1987, then a Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 1991 and a PhD degree in Computer-Aided Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1993. Albert started his career with Schlumberger Austin Product Center before moving to Genesis Development Corporation, USA in 1998. Albert joined the JobStreet Group in 2000 where he has overall responsibility for JobStreet.com's technology including product development, website platform architecture, sales technologies, technical operations and technical support.

Suresh Thiru - Chief Operating Officer, JobStreet.com Suresh A/L Thirugnanam is an Executive Director and the Chief Operating Officer of JobStreet.com with overall responsibility for the operations and customer care of the JobStreet Group. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1989 and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in 1989. Suresh started his career with Digital Equipment Corp, USA in 1989. In 1992, he worked briefly in Maxoptix Corporation, San Jose, USA before relocating back to Malaysia to join Motorola Malaysia Sdn Bhd ("Motorola") as a manufacturing engineer. He left Motorola in 1994 to join Maxis Communications Sdn Bhd where he held several positions, including Head of Network Services Operations and Head of Fixed Network Product and Planning Group before joining JobStreet.com in 2000.

Greg Poarch - Chief Financial Officer, JobStreet.com Gregory Poarch is the Chief Financial Officer who is responsible for the overall financial operations of the JobStreet Group. Greg obtained his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Accountancy from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Oklahoma, USA in 1988. Subsequently, he obtained his Certified Public Accountant designation in the USA in 1991. He started his career with the public accounting firm of Finley & Cook in 1988 as an auditor. In 1991, he moved to Occidental Petroleum Corporation as a senior auditor. After a posting to Occidental's Malaysian subsidiary in 1993, he joined Measat Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd "Astro" in Malaysia in 1996 as Manager, Systems and Methods. In 1997, he was promoted to senior finance manager with additional operational finance responsibilities until leaving Astro for the JobStreet Group in 2000.

Ng Kay Yip – Director, JobStreet.com Ng Kay Yip is a Non-Executive Director and co-founder of JobStreet.com. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Pennsylvania, USA and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, USA. In 1990, he obtained a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. While completing his education in the United States, he worked as a research officer with Bell Communications Research. Since 1990, he has been the executive director of the Maran group of companies, a family business that is involved in timber, property and construction.

Lim Chao Li – Director, JobStreet.com Lim Chao Li is a Non-Executive Director and co-founder of JobStreet.com. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics majoring in Accounting and Finance from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, USA and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science, University of Pennsylvania, USA. He commenced his career in 1989 as an Audit Assistant with Deloitte & Touche in Philadelphia, USA. In 1991, he moved back to Malaysia and joined Johnson & Johnson Sdn Bhd as an Accountant. He was promoted as its Finance & Administration Manager in 1993. He joined the Hotel Equatorial Group in 1994 as a Project Manager and became Vice-President of Finance in 1997. He currently oversees the hotel's finance department as well as several other companies in the group. His geographical area of responsibility includes Malaysia, China and Vietnam.

DISCUSSION

After I research about the entrepreneur, Mark Chang Mun Kee, my opinion is this entrepreneur had a very successful business with using information technology and management information system. For me information technology (IT) is importance for us to learn especially for those who are in world of business. It also good for student to learnt and applied it in their life. The entrepreneur needs to learn it and need to have a good knowledge in IT. It can make the business expand faster and can explore it to other country. When the entrepreneur have the knowledge, they can avoid from made a bad decision in business.

The good example that can we look is Mark Chang Mun Kee with his JobStreet.com. He cans success in this business because he had a lot of knowledge in technology. He also has a lot of experient in internet. He also had made a good journey in establish his dot.com company. He also had his vision and he work based on the vision. Mark Chang Mun Kee also had shared his vision with his employees. He also had imagined the future of JobStreet.com and he work to his imagination. We also can see that his management team has a good knowledge in information technology and management information system.

CONCLUSION

Lastly, what I can see is the information technology and management information system is important in business. It also important in our study and daily life because today everything they use internet even for a small matter. In business, IT and MIS is very useful to make the business expand faster. It also can help the business exploit to other country. It not only for business, even in primary and secondary school also had used IT to keep data of students. This entrepreneur, Mark Chang Mun Kee is a good person that can we follow the way he doing business and apply the information technology (IT) and management information system (MIS).
