INTRODUCTION

Problem given by company’s sales director in regard to the use of modern IT in the business. The main task is to find the suitable computing device within the given budget .In this world of modern technology, the development and progress without IT can’t be imagine. Acknowledging this fact our company also has decided to use one of the applications available in order to flourish its business and get huge profit.

As information got from director of sales department, portable computing device is going to replace the Boucher and other old items to provide information to the costumer. The new computing device that is going to introduce in our company is portable computing device. These task responsibilities come under me.

Plan

"Planning is a process which will help you to focus your ideas and to decide what steps you need to take to achieve particular goals that you may have."(Action planning)

My main plan is obviously to make suitable portable computing device available to all the sales workers. The given budget for this work is limited. So my concern will be also in careful judgments of device that will be helpful to every worker and company to win the heart of many customers. So, in order to achieve this I will be employing some workers and myself to search work in market, in internet to grab my aim. Also I should be careful about the feature of the device which can go through according to our company’s plan.

The minimum that my chosen device should have following:

Enough space

Can visualize company’s information and product

Effective calculation

Available in different languages

Portable

Maximum backup power

Better security within it

Problem definition

Every project has got many problems within it. Most important thing is that to achieve goal problems in it should be identified earlier and try to solve it by finding the convenient methods. In my case, I have identified some problems with my work which are given below:

Insufficient budget

As there are twenty seven (27) sales member in five different countries (Switzerland, Vietnam, Indonesia, Qatar and Canada).So to make available suitable computing device of new technology within given budget that is £10,000 is difficult.

Low manpower

To meet the aim I have to do some research work to find suitable device. So, I need to go to different places to do different fraction of work. Also time is limited so I need few numbers of workers to me my part of work for assistance in my work.

Suitable devices may not be available. If available may not match the minimum required features.

Identifying selection criteria

It involves the creative thinking in which I have used brainstorms and mind maps.

Brainstorm: It is the process to generate creative ideas and solution through discussion.

Mind maps: It is the process for visualizing the network of different ideas. (De Bono, Edward 1999)

Success criteria

As part for success criteria the following points are essential:

Cost of device should be within the range of £200-£300

Budget is low that is only £10,000.So according to my calculation, I should have to spend the money within the range of £200-£300 to make available to the entire sales member.

Portable and compatible

The company device which we buy should be easy for staff to carry anywhere .So it should be in reliable size so that the staff feels easy to carry it.

High security within

The device should have high security to secure the data’s as all the information about the company and products are stored within it.

Avaibility of minimum features as mentioned

The device which we buy should contain at least minimum features which I have mentioned in the plan. These features help the staff in their work to achieve the company’s success.

Backup compatibility and usability

During the travel of staff the backup power plays important role. The scope of the battery should be high. And the staff should be able to use the device on efficient and effective way.

Solutions

To every problem there is a solution. It depends upon how we find and chose the better one. To find out the better solutions I research in the internet, in the market, in the books etc. On the basis that to meet the success criteria, I have chosen the better solutions.

Above table shows the name of latest computing device which are available in the market. Google Xexus is the latest tablet found in the market which fulfils the minimum requirement features. Amazon Kindle Fire HD is also latest tablet found in the market that fulfils the minimum required features. Another is Mini laptop Netbook is the laptop which is recently launched and also fulfils our minimum features.lt Another is laptop which do not fulfils the minimum features. Ultrabooks are also better solutions but do not contain minimum features.

Process of selection

There are five solutions listed. Among them better one should be chosen which is difficult. So to have better solution GRADE TABLE is best. It helps me to chose better solution easily.

Above show the rating for the solutions. While choosing the best solution, we should be alert that the best solution which we came from grade table may not fulfils the all requirement that company wants. So we need to choose that match all the success criteria keeping in mind about our aim. (Wallace B and Maker J, et al 2004) According to the grade table Google Xexus and Mini laptop Netbook is the better solution. It means this two are the better solution among five solutions. As there is tie between two I would choose the Google Xexus.

Statement and details of solution

Solution 1, are within the range we estimated, can also easy to carry, easy to use, have high security and also fulfils the minimum feature we have estimated. Solution 2, is out of our range of cost. Solutions 3, are within our range of cost, contain high security with minimum feature we have estimated and are also easy to use. Solution 4, is also out of our range of cost and is not portable in comparison to TABLET. Solution 5, have high security but is out of our range of cost.
