Telecity Group Company Profile

Introduction

Currently being referred to as Telecity Group, this company has changed names from Telecity to TelecityRedbus. The company is registered as a private limited company and listed in the London Stock Exchange. Since inception in 1998 by Mike Kelly, the company has emerged from unification of Globix Holdings, Telecity Limited and Redbus Interhouse Limited (TelecityGroup, 2013).

Currently, the company is a carrier-neutral data Centre and a colocation center provider. In essence, the company provides an environment through which its customers can house their IT infrastructure, telecoms and internet. Telecity Group has a reputation of providing a resilient and secure environment for effective operations of stored and connected communication lines (TelecityGroup, 2013). In achieving this, the company has ensured that the data centers are efficiently designed and managed. Due to the high number of customers and connectivity level, the systems are highly connected.

Embedded in its documents, the company’s mission is to strive in the deliverance of operational excellence for all services it offers to its clients. Provision of such services is not limited to the core functionality of the company, but cuts across to all the services offered by each and every employee assigned a task as provided by the group of its dedicated employees (TelecityGroup, 2013). Depending on its line of operation, the company is solely based in ensuring that the services offered meets a given delivery standard, right from engineering room to customer relation departments.

Corporate Responsibility

Like any other business, the company is engaged in a stream of activities to provide a picture of concern to the society around. It is through these efforts that has seen a good understanding between the company and the society within such areas of operation. In an undertaking meant to give a sense of responsibility, the company has diverted focus to the customers as well as the environment.

In customer satisfaction, the company ensures that services and products it delivers are of the highest quality. Satisfying the customer needs and deliverance of the best services, is not an effort of simply attracting new customers, but it is a routine put in place to ensure that current and future customers are fully satisfied (TelecityGroup, 2013). Customers, therefore, receive a highly efficient service through a well conversant team of engineers and management employees. While considering a personal evaluation of customer satisfaction, the company recorded that more than 95 percent of clients were more than satisfied by the services offered at the company. With a company that depends on customer trust and reliance, Telicity Group has outdone itself in customer outreach.

Being a data center, environmental preservation and adherence to the set standards of energy use is a grand challenge to the company. Effective energy use, for environmental safety, requires minimal usage of energy for the digital devices used in the world today. The company’s servers requires large amount of power to effectively run and meet the very needs of clients (TelecityGroup, 2013). With a wide range of facilities and systems to run, the pressure to reduce the energy consumption has weighed heavily to its management team.

Telecity Group has responded to this challenge in a manner that clearly indicates its concern to environment. Among the strictly set rules and regulations, the company has achieved and strived in being certified as an implementer of the set policies. Among these policies include the European Union (EU) Code of Conduct for Data Centers. This is solely meant for energy usage within data centers in Europe. The carbon emitted by the company is also closely watched and monitored to ensure that emission is reduced or eliminated (TelecityGroup, 2013). This effort has earned the organization The Carbon Trust Standard.

Areas of Operation

Unlike other companies that offer data centers, Telecity Group has strategic locations of operation all across Europe. The major areas of operation are based on major cities where the centers are located. From these points the servers and systems interconnect with each other. The location with the largest number of data centers is London. London houses eight data centers distributed across the city. The second largest is Amsterdam with five data centers, while the least locations has only two data centers, that is Frankfurt, Milan and Sweden. Helsinki, Dublin and Paris each have three data centers each (Datacentre Knowledge, 2010).

Within these data centers, the company dedicates majority of the systems in providing Internet Exchanges. The exchanges provided by the company enable its client companies to communicate to each other and exchange data effectively (TelecityGroup, 2013). Such exchanges enable the mobile and telephone services to exchange data accordingly and efficiently.

Accreditations

Despite its short existence or being in operation, Telecity Group has managed to be accredited and adhere to strict standards of operation within the European Union. Some of such standards have been on voluntary basis, while others are as an effort of achieving the best industrial standards of operation. Accreditation for a company like Telecity Group is considered to be involving and demanding as the customer trust highly relies on this. This helps in ensuring that such steps assure the clients of effectiveness and manageability of their services (TelecityGroup, 2013).

Among the credits that the company has received include ISO 14001 certification. This is in accordance to its effort in managing the environment. Environment management comes into hand considering adoption of energy modes that are safe to the environment and reduction to carbon emission. While being a young company, Telecity Group has surpassed more than 94 percent of 2103 companies ranked in carbon reduction effort within Europe (FTSE, 2009). The company emerged as in the 103rd position of the companies. This position earned it Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) recognition.

Voluntarily, the organization adopted means of ensuring that 21 percent of its energies will be accessed from renewable energy sources. This is practiced in its data centers in Paris, France. Such an undertaking ensures that the rate of carbon emission expected from the company, is reduced significantly. This results to a safe environment and a contribution towards reduction of the emission rates. This earned it an Equilibre Plus certification from France.

To assure its employees, clients and competitors of a fair and free competition implementation, the company is a member of FTSE4GOOD. This membership entail that a company will always adhere to a fair and reasonable business practice while transacting its business. FTSE4GOOD is meant for only such companies that can maintain good business practice with all the concerned parties (FTSE, 2009).

Finally, the company has had all its data centers awarded the ISO/IEC 27001:2005. This certification indicates that the centers are compliant with the international security management. This comes in handy considering the types of data being held by the systems and the assurance that majority of the customers always seek.

Industrial Undertaking

Telecity Group not only boasts as being the top runner in data centers in Europe, but it has taken giant steps to ensure it becomes a leader in the industry of data centers. By being a leader and maintaining this position, the company has had to set example in different aspects of operation. Such steps have had impacts on the clients, and the industry (TelecityGroup, 2013).

Chief among the positions it holds in Europe include being a member and a patron of European Internet Exchange Association (Euro-IX). This organization has the mandate of discussing and sharing ideas on the internet exchange between its members and other affiliations. Its members are derived from the all Internet Exchange Points affiliated organizations (TelecityGroup, 2013).

Telecity Group is a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF). This group dis mandated to check and remove illegal contents from the internet. The IWF is an effort to ensure that consumers are well protected from information that are explicit or tend to harm the viewers. The company manages this given that most of internet data within Europe is stored within its data centers; it searches and removes such harmful content from within its own systems.

Conclusion

Telecity Group has achieved a lot since 1998. The company has trended in a manner that is meant to ensure that data centers are safe and trustworthy by the clients. It is only through these efforts that it has managed to acquire the current status that it enjoys in Europe and international recognition. Its engagement in charitable organizations such as Actions for Children and The Loomba Trust has seen it go places and implement its mandate to the society.

It currently enjoys being a leader in the industry and the first preference to most clients seeking internet exchange services or systems to accommodate IT infrastructures. It is this outgoing nature that has seen it garner majority of certification unlike any other company in this industry and become a pace-setter to its colleagues in this sector of business.
