Such as, Information sharing, reduced cost, streamlined process, proved security and support the organization process. In web publishing, XML's simplicity of use, allows to create and customize the interactive pages and with the help of XSL it is easy to render the content in different views. It support many commercial tools, so the publishers can publish their article in their desired format. Also it makes the site management easy. E-business has gain a lot of benefit from the web. XML provide advantages to both the customer and to the business people. The implementation of XML, makes easy and reliable for information interchange and transaction between the business to consumer and business to business. As I mentioned in the web publishing, in e- business also it improves the presentation (GUI). Searching for a particular information in the business is crucial, the XML makes it easy to find informations in the web. In metadata application XML makes easy to to express the metadata in reusable format. Considering the pervasive computing, the XML give portable and structured data for wireless computing devices display (cell phones and PDA). WML and Voice XML perform an important role on visual and speech driven interfaces. The way it describe the data structure is much flexible to deal with large range of data structures.

How XML provide all the above benefits to organization? Why the companies rely on XML? Data interchange is the core concept in the above mentioned benefits. Basically XML is designed to support structured data (meta data) sharing across the systems or application. The concept of metadata is the success of XML. "Metadata is machine understandable information about web resources or other things". It define a common language to used in the system, so that all the organizations can be communicate with one common language. Document type definition (DTD) file use to reference the other systems. To document the metadata, the XML has been used. Since the metadata use a common language among the other system, so the XML can be used to integrate with all the other system. So the data sharing and data exchange has become more easy with the use of XML. XSL plays a major role in display the contents in different format. The specification of XML syntax is public. So that any programmer can write and process the document according to that syntax. The XML syntax also very easy to write. They can be reused. The codes are text-based. XML is platform independent. The user can view it in the text editor and it is available in all the system. Because of these characteristics most of the companies rely on XML for their projects.

There are many advantages from XML as I described in above paragraphs. At the same time it also has some drawbacks. XML was not designed for data storage. It has been designed for data exchange. So when we write a human readable format it takes lot of space in the memory. So when compare the XML with other data storage algorithms it is not efficient. If we are going to store only the text it is efficient but when we try to store the image details it use more spaces. In one article I have read, it says that the poor implementation or not rendered with proper requirements also will result in failure. How ever from the articles and from the other resources, it says that XML is a good solution for the complex data sharing. So the XML is blessed with both the advantages and disadvantages. So when adopt with the XML, the organization should clearly study the strength and weaknesses of XML with their requirements!
