The motherboard is the most important part of your computer. If there is a limitation on the motherboard it limits your computer. If you buy a better part then the motherboard itself you won’t be using the full potential of the part.

Features:

The motherboard includes the following features:

CPU socket (the type will depend on the board specifications)

PCI-E slots (Peripheral Component Interconnect express slots) or in other words PCI express slots are used for graphic cards/video cards

PATA (Parallel Advance Technology Attachment) also know as IDE (Integrated Development Environment) are generally used for connecting old disc drives. PATA has now been outdated and replaced by SATA (serial advance technology attachment). They come in three forms SATA 1, 2 and 3. SATA 1 works at 1.5 gigabytes per seconds, SATA 2 at 3 gigabytes per second, and SATA 3 at 6 gigabytes per second. The SATA ports are used to connect devices such as hard drives and disc drives. There are other SATA ports such as the E-SATA ports (Exterior Serial Advance Technology Attached) these are more commonly found on laptops which are used for connect external Hardrives.

USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (USB – ) are used for hooking up a huge variety of external devices. USB 3.0 is the new modern USB port and runs at a speed of 5 megabytes per second

The motherboard’s purpose is to act like a main circuit board for all the devices used for a computer. This circuitry serves like a type of communication medium for computers. You could say its where all the action happens in a computer.

Motherboards are where all the action happens in a computer. Every motherboard has a series of basic components that make them all perform their functions, and most of the messages that are sent between devices in a computer are managed by the motherboard's circuitry. Altogether, the purpose of a motherboard is to provide circuitry that serves as a communication medium for computers.

The function of the computerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png motherboard is to act as the main circuit board that connects and communicates to all the devices and components attached. The motherboard also facilitates the communication of devices with each other. Motherboards are designed around the type of central processing unit (CPU) that will be installed. Because motherboards act as the base for all other computer components, the number of PCI slots, USB headers, memory slots, SATA headers, and other slots should be checked ahead of time before building a personal computer

Features

Most modern motherboards come with the following features as standard:

A processor slot (the type will depend on the board specifications)

DDR-type slots (minimum of 2)

PCI- Express slot

PCI-x slots

SATA interfaces

IDE interfaces

USB ports

Power connection for CPU fan

Below are some of the uses for these features:

DDR type memory banks are used for RAM modules.

PCI-x slots are used to provide connectivity for PCI-type cards, such as modems and sound cards. For more on PCI click here.

PCI Express slots are used for video cards, they offer improved performance over the older AGP interface.

The SATA-type interfaces are used to connect devices such as hard drives, they offer better performance compared to IDE (see below). For more on SATA click here

IDE interfaces are used to connect and control IDE devices such as CD-ROM drives and DVD writers. For more on IDE click here.

USB ports are used to connect a vast array of external devices, such as printershttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png, scanners and digital cameras. For more information on USB click here.

Ram

Purpose:

RAM is used to load and run programs or applications on a computer's operating system. More RAM means more applications and programs can be run simultaneously.

Function

A hard drive is a fixed disk drive that stores digital data onto magnetic surfaces. Most often, these are sealed units that cannot be opened without voiding the warranty.

The main purpose of a hard drive is for data storage. For a computerhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png system to properly function, it needs a storage unit to store and install data.
