Design thinking means thinking as a designer would. Tim Brown of IDEO has written that design thinking is a "discipline that uses the designer’s sensibility and methods to match people’s needs with what is technologically feasible and what a viable business strategy can convert into customer value and market opportunity."

The first area is the design of symbolic and visual communication, which involves the work of graphic design like typography and advertising, book and magazine production. The arrival of new technology and communication also contribute to it with photography, television and computer display. Communications design help to better translate information or ideas.

The second one is the design of materiel objects, which includes the form and visual appearance of everyday products such as clothing, vehicles or machinery. Something important to notice is that relationships between products and human have changed in term of social, physical and psychological aspects.

The third one is the design of activities and organized services. This part is about the management concern for logistics, combining all the resources available in order to reach objectives. This area is evolving and plays a significant role in logical decision-making and strategic planning.

The last area is the design of complex systems or environments for living, working, playing and learning. It includes concerns of systems engineering, architecture and urban planning ; it is about how design can support the human life.

All these areas have affected extensively contemporary life and are all interconnected.

Indeed, Signs, things, actions and thoughts act together like 4 gears. Signs reflect our perception and actions reflect become instruments of actions.

Designer’s choice are wide so they pretty free in term of contents.

Nowadays, they are obviously actors of innovation.

According to Horst Rittel and Melvin M. Webber in 1972 there are ten properties of wicked problems:

- Wicked problems have no definitive formulation, but every formulation of a wicked problem corresponds to the formulation of a solution.

- Wicked problems have no stopping rules.

- Solutions to wicked problems cannot be true or false, only good or bad.

- In solving wicked problems there is no exhaustive list of a admissible operations.

- For every wicked problem there is always more than one possible explanation, with explanations depending on the Weltanschauung of the designer.

- Every wicked problem is a symptom of another, "higher level", problem

- No formulation and solution of a wicked problem has a definitive test.

- Solving a wicked problem is a ‘one shot" operation with no room for trial and error

- Every wicked problem is unique

- The wicked problem solver has no right to be wrong they are fully responsible for their actions

Wicked Problems in Design Thinking, by Richard Buchanan, discusses the qualities of problems attempting to be solved in design thinking.

The liberal arts of history were separated up into subjects, such as the arts, history, natural science, mathematics, philosophy, and social science and each with different method of investigation.

The fragmentation makes it difficult for any of the subjects to be applied to human life outside of the research labs and libraries. Buchanan believes that design thinking is the link. It can link the arts and sciences through the methods it employs.

Design helps the growth of trade activity. It is also a segmented profession for the field of technical research. The author looks at design as a liberal art as he believes that liberal arts are undergoing a revolutionary transformation and design is one of the areas where the transformation is very evident.

Liberal arts has evolved and permitted a new way of thinking. Indeed, he considered design as a liberal art with the abilities to be shared by everyone in their daily lives.

To reflect on Buchanan’s characteristics in context of design today, here are the following four broad areas in which design is explored throughout the world by professional designers:

Symbolic and visual communications; material objects; activities and organized services; and complex systems or environments for living, working, playing, and learning.

All of these fields are linked through design thinking. This is very interesting because all these fields cover all necessary tasks.

However, Buchanan like most of his peers during this period rejected the notion of design as a science.

The wicked problems approach to design thinking is not merely a technical specialization but a new liberal art.

The author looks at design as a liberal art as he believes that liberal arts are undergoing a revolutionary transformation and design is one of the areas where the transformation is very evident.

There is a problem, a specific set of methods used to work through it, and a finite solution. This is well liked because of its logic. The weakness in that is design thinking has no logical process. The wicked problem approach requires the designer to pick the relevant subject to work in because design itself has no subject matter. Once the subject is picked, the problem needs to be reframed to work within that subject. Once this is done, then the designer can work on solving it.

Long since interactive media development has come into mainstream it has primarily followed sequential development techniques through the development lifecycle

Nowadays, wicked problems are obviously inherent to Interactive media. That’s why we need to find some solutions..

First of all, in a competitive society you need to be aware of the environment. Every decision you make need a reflexion. Indeed you need improve your productivity. When you start working on project you will quickly discover that the development methodology used will have a major part to play in the speed and quality of the business value.

Some tools were created to help the company to planify a project and it’s a direct response to the issue associated with traditional software development – both in terms of overall philosophy as well as specific processes.

In case of any change request or enhancements come in between any phase, it can be implemented pretty easily. Quick coding and Testing makes the management aware of the gaps existing in either requirements or technology used and can try to find the workaround for the same.

Methodology such as SCRUM is able to ensure that value is continuing to be maximized throughout the development process. As a result of this iterative planning and feedback loop, teams are able to continuously align the delivered software with desired business needs.

Usually Agile methodologies promote less formal culture and encourage collaborative team approach.

It also saves cost, time and efforts by following iterative incremental work delivery and thereby identifying deviations early.

Technology and interactive media are here to stay. Young children live in a world of interactive media. They are growing up at ease with digital devices that are rapidly becoming the tools of the culture at home, at school, at work.

By the way, you enchant your potential client; you entice his interest and grow his desire.

Interactive digital media can be delivered in a variety of formats. It can be accessed through web browsers on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and on sites with user-generated content such as YouTube, Vimeo…

For example virtual shop in South Korea is very famous. There's a row of brightly lit billboards along the platform, with hundreds of pictures of food and drink - The name of the company was Tesco which is a British company who created a virtual shop.

The digitization of rich media–video, audio, and images–continues to transform how companies manage their assets, requiring them to reduce costs, adopt new delivery methods, collaborate with customers, and constantly improve user experiences.

In this environment, a company's success depends on equipping its people with the right technology and tools. This means bridging existing, disparate systems and providing an integrated collaboration platform for the content production process.
