ABSTRACT

Redesign the network technology in small company to develop fast and secured network in the organization. Assigning IP address using VLSM to the interfaces in the network. The prices and specifications of hardware used in this network and in future purpose of company requirements.

Introduction:

In the given network topology of a small company is having some difficulties in communication. To resolve this difficulties, I redesign the network with new ip address (company is using the address of 156.167.0.0 / 16 ) by using VLSM and all the interfaces with its ip address mentioned in Table:2In this network using single mode fiber optic cable to transmit the data very faster and no loss of data packet. It is expensive but using this the communication between networks is speed up the process. Using switches instead of hubs which is used in old network Fig:01.

Calculation of Subnets:

For company requirement it contains three departments in each department There is some number of devices which mentioned in Table:01

Department

Number of devices

IP addresses

Administration

L = 15

IP 1, IP 2, … IP 15

Order Processing

M = 25

IP 1, IP 2, …, IP 25

Dispatch

N = 50

IP 1, IP 2, …, IP 50

Table 1: Company's PC requirement.

In calculating subnet it starts from subnet which is having high number of devices(hosts) required. From Table:01 first Dispatch department having highest no of devices(hosts) required and then Order Processing department and last Administration department. Company using ip address:156.167.0.0/16.

2.1 Dispatch Department subnet:

Table 2: VLSM design of the proposed network topology.

Network Topology (Re-Design):

The new re-design network as show in Fig: 02 it consists of Router and switches.

Order Processing Administration Dispatch

Fig: 02

(Source: Packet Tracer)

In this above network for every subnet having one switch which are configured in VLAN and the switch in administration make it as VTP Server and other are Client and the router is used for better communication in the network.

3.1 Configuration:

Configure all the devices with IP Address as show in Table: 02 and then configure the switches for VLAN and VTP Server. Make Order Processing as VLAN 10 and Administration as VLAN 99 and Dispatch as VLAN 20 and then VLAN 99 make it as VTP Server. In Configuration method make all domain names and password for all switches same at their interfaces respectively.

Configure the router with the IP address at the Fast Ethernet port interface.

The default gateways for the VLANs 10, 20 and 99 are 156.167.0.62, 156.167.0.94 and 156.167.0.126 respectively.

Configure the trunks and access ports for Order Processing and Dispatch switches.

Configure one sub-interface for each VLAN and assign the default gateway IP address to it.

Configure the sub-interface fa0/0.10 with the IP address 156.167.0.62/26

Configure the sub-interface fa0/0.20 with the IP address 156.167.0.94/27

Configure the sub-interface fa0/0.99 with the IP address 156.167.0.126/27

Check the interface status in router and trunk status at VTP server.

Single mode fiber optic cable having a small core and cladding diameter (9/125 microns). It means that the ratio between core and cladding diameter is 9 microns to 125 microns.http://www.infinitecables.com/images/fiber%20cable%20diag.jpg

It allows only one ray or signal( in mode of light) to travel .The number of light reflections decreases when the light passes through the core, lesser attenuation

and creating the capability to the signal to travel faster, further. It used for higher capacity Bandwidth to transmit information because it can hold the Charge of Fig: 04

each light pulse throughout the longer distances. This System (technology) is mainly used by Colleges and Universities and Telco’s, CATV companies. The acceptable transmission range is up to 3km.

By using this communcation system in network it helps to transmit the data between one network to another netwrok very fastly and little integrity loss.

5.1 Single Mode Fiber optic communication Advantages:

It doesn’t have modal dispersion & noise, and other effects while transmission.

It transmit signals at higher speeds.

It is best option for long distance length (or) high data rates.

Capable of transmitting data throughout the distance with little integrity loss.

Telecommunications which use laser diode based fiber optic transmission equipment.

5.2 Single Mode Fiber optic communication Disadvantages:

Coupling light into single mode fiber requires much tighter tolerances.

Components and equipments of Single mode fiber are more expensive.
