Introduction

Thinking about world’s most common topic, many of you would think that the story is about politics, finance or wars all around globe, but you would be wrong. For the last few months the most popular thing to talk about was IOS vs. Android, or better related example Apple vs. Samsung. We would ask ourselves a question why this is so important, but the answer is quite simple, beside computer the cell phone (mobile phone) is the gadget with the highest frequency of usage. Now when you think about it the modern generations could not imagine a life without the unique function of the mobile phone.

Today mobile phones are not anything like they were couple of years ago after introduction of the so called smartphones, became the ultimate tool of entertainment, communication and gaming. The concept completely changed after introduction of IBMs first world smart phone called Simon in the year of 1973. Through the history the development of the smartphone technology has led to creation of the several biggest companies know today Apple and Android. Apple initially released its first version of the mobile operative system (IOS) with the first smartphone produced by this company, the well-known, iPhone in 2007. One year later at the September 23rd Android releases its first version of the Linux-based operating system known as Android as well.

It is well known fact that there is huge online "war" between these two companies and these two operating systems both of them have theirs advantages and disadvantages, but we all ask ourselves a question before deciding between these two products and a question from simple and plain curiosity: "Which of these two operating system, IOS and Android on Samsung Galaxies and iPhone?" The main objective of this essay is to actually help us define why is better to buy Android or Apple, but taking into account all relevant and transparent facts based on only the operative systems, but considering price.

Concepts of both operative systems

Apples iOS is now one of the most frequent systems running on a smartphone. To be honest iPhone with iOS integrated and running on it made a huge revolution of the smartphone itself, because the whole concept as Steve Jobs would say "Every once in a while a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything." and with these words introduced one of the best products known to man in the mobile phone industry. We all know that the iPhone iOS is quite unique design and the tradition five years later after first appearance on the market has stayed the same, especially the actual concept of the system itself. The main advantage is that users get used to the interface and no need time to adopt to changes, but also not so often versions of iOS can result the system to get outdated like it happened before release of iPhone 3S It is also well-known that it has closed source model is closed, that means that user cannot interfere with the processes that operative system do and also cannot change or see or copy the source itself.

Many people would consider this thing as an advantage, but also as big disadvantage. The main thing considered as advantage here is that the closed source system makes perfectly well developed software, so there is no need that user touch or modify the system processes and the operative system itself, but on the other hand there are couple of the things which certainly have a bad affect and that is that the system if it gets broken or some kind of system or syntax error appears you cannot fix it yourself and you have to go to the Apples shop only to fix it. Apples iOS is not completely closed, it has some components that have open source and those are some of the applications and user interface that can be changed only slightly, so the unique and familiar design stays the same.

Android is more of an open source, which supports free redeployment and entree to an end product's design and application details, operative system and it’s a lot more applicable and changeable if the user is unsatisfied or wants to change the operative system. It is enough just to know that Android is Linux-based, so we can say that the android system has almost all characteristics like the Linux operative system, which means that the system is free and it can be used by any device manufacturers or anyone else, but that also means that it can be modified like the user or producer wants to. This is big advantage, because the user can modify the system their selves and on that way can be completely satisfied by the fact that they can change what they do not like or what they think it could be improved. This open source system could also be a huge disadvantage and that is that unskilled user or just mistake that can be made on developing or modifying of operative system could led your whole operative system to fail or just that you lose all the data form your smartphone device.

Android is known as the operating system that releases updates quite frequently so users can have updated system on their gadgets. This is also contradictory to the iOS because it is always innovative, but like everything else this has advantages and disadvantages considering that are the user always have updated software and all necessary changes if system showed ineffective or had some anomalies in preforming, but also the changes may affect the users experience while using the smartphone, due to the fact it can be too complicated or just not suited for some users after the update.

App store vs. Market

This is very important aspect in terms of the whole experience while using your smartphone. Apples iOS gives ability to user to enter their app store that has all apps for the iPhone or any other device that was produced by Apple. The iTunes App store is most popular and largest provider of applications, because it was the innovation in terms of selling or giving for free applications, so other players have arrived late at this game and was just to far away to get to the same level as App store did.

The iOS market has a lot of disadvantages in terms that there is no trial for the apps, which means that developer of an app can publish it quite easily and there is no testing, which has led to a lot of complains from the consumers which often demand refunds, and it is quite hard to get them, but in over all the app store has much more apps in their choice, so the consumer have more opportunities in terms that he can find wanted app that he is looking for. Another advantage is that App store provides most of the apps first and they come really late on Androids market. There is one more quite interesting, but usual for Apple iOS and that is the thing that is simplicity of the store itself, it is good because consumer have good perception and accessibility to apps and data. In addition to that all of the apps are organized great and the search was made easier to a consumer. Biggest disadvantage is considered as the connecting or the actual purchase of the app itself, because for installing or purchasing the app you need device or iTunes installed to your PC, which can get really frustrating and annoying if you are app "maniac", who downloads a lot of apps and really needs to have an update on them. The thing is that you have not same accessibility as you are supposed to have.

Androids market (Play store) is another quite popular purchasing place to buy apps. It is quite interesting and well developed. Coming in late it really has developed well after first release in 2008. As well as iTunes App store has problems and good sides. In general the Play store is still undeveloped, so we can say that it cannot cope with iOS App store, but on the other hand it has one big advantage and that is that all apps has to be tested before they are released, so the consumers have protection in terms that they know what are they paying for. The big disadvantage for many consumers is the complexity and it is a bit over sticking, making it hard to use it and hard to find the app you are looking for. The organization is quite bad and making it so innovative has bounced back and made the store trashy in one way. Another good advantage is that there is more free apps then the paid once and even with the fact there is big difference in the amount of apps in stores, the ratio is quite bigger concerning (free over paid) all apps.

Software support:

The biggest advantage of iOS here is that it has better developed software, which has been updated and modified since the first release in 2007. Since the day iPhone 5 was released there was no complains on iOS 6.0 at all. In addition to that concerning the operating system, Apples owner is owner of the system so all the changes on system can be automatically modified.

Moreover advantage towards iOS operating system lies in integrated smartphone PC suite software. Smartphone or phone PC Suite software is program used on PC or Mac which is used to operate and manage data, documents, software update of smartphones running Android or IOS.

Android has some difficulties concerning the updates, due to the fact in order to modify and improve their software they need to contact Google, the founder and developer of Android operative system, in order to apply changes. This has shown to be a big disadvantage, because it takes additional time for producers like LG, Samsung, Motorola, HTC and all other smartphone and device producers supported by Android to operate its systems.

Most famous examples are iTunes for IOS devices, Samsung Kies for Samsung devices, LG PC suite for LG devices, Motorola Phone Tools for Motorola smartphones, HTC PC suite etc. iTunes. IOS supported devices have unique PC suite and Android, on the other hand PC suites differ from device developer for instance Samsung (Kies), Motorola (MPT) and LG (LG PC Suite). So taking in concern we can say that Android does not have universal PC suit for smartphone they support, nevertheless the iOS’s iTunes can work on every device.

Furthermore concerning updates, iOS has a disadvantage here, due to the fact that the only updated can be done with iTunes and PC. On the other hand the Android can update their system with only device; this is a huge advantage for Android, due to the fact that it is quite easy to maintain the software.

Price:

Picture 1.0 Even though this is not completely computer based topic it is important to state it, because the importance of the specification price here is quite relevant concerning the topic. The newest iPhone 5 cost $70 more than the Galaxy S3 (see Picture [1] 1.0), but as we can see the Android version of Galaxy S3 is providing user better specification for lower price.

Sharing and storage:

Android took great advantage concerning the sharing aspect of the system. First of all the iOS does not allow sharing with other smartphones which is not supported by Apples operative system. This makes big issue for Apple consumers because they cannot share their files with other users, which is irritating and annoying if you use iOS.

iOs has a biggest disadvantage over Android, due to the fact that the integrated memory is quite inefficient and it is creating great problems to users that are using the iPhone to its fullest. There is no possibility to extend the memory of the phone. This is a big problem because many users around the world are unsatisfied and unwilling to buy and iPhone because of this problem.

Unlike iOS, android systems offer a possibility to add an external memory drive which offers bigger memory storage. Many devices that use android operating systems have, on their own, a big space quantity and on top of that you can add a memory stick to save your photos, songs and clip videos. The system also offers a possibility to clear an entire memory by one step and one push of a button which greatly decreases complicated actions in clearing your phone in time of need. Also, with a storing memory on your external drive on your phone you keep the pressure off the system itself which enables a better performance of the device.

User friendliness:

This is quite important for consumers which actually can be a decision making point when choosing between iOS and Android. Clean and simple IOS design makes a consumer happy and just relaxed while using the device. Looking on iPhone 4 beside, while using it the simplicity was the first thing I have noticed. Big icons with 16 icons on each screen sheet are quite noticeable and they are not hard to find and in addition to that the icon design is quite good, because using it you get used to recognizing the apps only by their icon. There is negative side as well, because keeping apps in folders makes your life harder, due to the fact that it gets hard to find the app you are looking for and keeping them unsorted it slows the system. Using the iOS the system is well integrated into the iPhone providing user everything needed and the enjoyment to use.

Android is just too complicated to use and in general, because the concentration of apps and the organization of the apps, but concerning the visual interface and the how system was involved with user friendliness. Investigating a bit and requesting the user feedback from the Galaxy s3 user and you can see in the interview [2] that user is quite satisfied and put the visual and system specification as its main advantage is concerned those widgets provided on the phone that easier to find everything you need and they are very helpful in terms that all you need is on one spot and you can make your favorites. The student also points out that the Android is saving his time and which correlates to user friendliness of the system.

Conclusion:

Considering all the components and relevant facts we can come to conclusion that both of the operative systems iOS and Android has their disadvantages and advantages, but with overall conclusion we can say that iOS with its traditional design and user friendliness, but aslo well developed shop still leads in this game where the late come Android is still lacking some of the main characteristics that any operating system on smartphone should have. Android is developing very fast at the rate of "light speed" and it is catching up with iOS and coming quite close to succeeding to become as successful as Apples operating system is. There are a lot of facts that support the Android, nevertheless it is quite interesting and innovative, but the tradition and sustain in development of Apple has made a difference. It is important to not make a mistake when thinking about the iOS, because it is not perfect and it still has a lot of flaws, but in the moment it is quite well developed and there is not a system that can cope with the iOS, with all things listed above and the components mentioned.
