In the following document I will be recommending what computing hardware to use for multiple services as dictated by the scenario given to me by the company which can be seen below

Scenario

Isherwood’s Engineering Ltd has recently merged with Razak Design Ltd. The two companies had different and aging IT systems so they have decided to overhaul their entire IT infrastructure as part of a move to new premises. The company needs the following computer systems:

25 General purpose computers suitable for running Microsoft Office

10 High performance PCs capable of demanding graphics tasks such as Photoshop or Computer Aided Design

Reliable file servers with the ability to hold at least 1TB of disk storage without worrying about disk failure

Central administration or user access controlled by a server

A public web server

The company has asked you to tender to provide appropriate hardware and software solutions for their new computer setup. The company is anxious that costs must not get out of hand so your objective is to specify an adequate solution at the best possible price. Other contractors are also tendering so it is in your interest to obtain a good deal.

First I will be recommending which computers to use for a general purpose, from my research I discovered that to run Microsoft Office the computers will not need to be very highly technical computers the computer I have chosen is the ASUS Essentio CM6730-UK002S Desktop PC.

The reason I have chosen this computer as it is a low cost, with the ability to run Microsoft Office and capable of running other general programs which may be required.

Below are the specifications of the computer.

Processor: Intel® Celeron® G550 processor (2.6 GHz, 533 MHz processor FSB, 2 MB cache)

Operating System: Windows 8 which will be able to run all general purpose programs needed.

Memory: 4 Gigabytes

Hard drive: The hard drive has 500 Gigabytes’ storage available, which will store the information used by programs on the computer but will also have the ability to remotely access the companies server to download any files needed, through the use of login details and a password.

Graphics: Intel GMA (shared) This graphics card will allow the computer to perform tasks such as video calls easily in case this becomes an important part of the company.

Modem/Ethernet: 10/100/1000BT which will allow the computer to connect to the internet in a high speed which means that this will improve the efficiency of work as the user will not have to wait long for a web page to load.

Next I will be recommending a high performance computer which will be capable of running computer intensive programs such as Photoshop.

Hard drive: The hard drive has 1 Terabyte storage available, which will store the information used by programs on the computer but will also have the ability to remotely access the companies server to download any files needed, through the use of login details and a password.

Modem/Ethernet: 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector) which will allow for a fast connection.

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M Graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory, this will allow high quality images to be created with the use of Photoshop without them suffering from a poor graphics card.

Stirling X81 - 8U/48HDD Sandy Bridge-EP Based Storage Server

A file server is a computer which has been connected to a network and its primary function is providing a location in which many users can access used a shared disk access system which can go from 1 Terabyte to a maximum of 4 Terabytes.

The file server I have selected is the Aberdeen Stirling X81 Storage Server, this server is able to upgrade the amount of data it stores to 4 Terabytes.

The reason I have chosen this server is that it is able to have a selectable operating system which will allow the company to run a system of their choice.

Also it has a high hard disk drive density storage server and has support for 4 Terabytes worth of storage, the memory it supports is 512 Gigabytes.

Administration Server

For the Administration server I recommend that a version of Windows Server is used due to the fact that Windows Server is simple to configure when installed.

Public Web Server

What I propose is used for a public web server is to rent one and continue to use it until it appears your company is going to grow enough to warrant purchasing a high performance web server.

Renting a web server is cheap and simple as the majority of the coding is done by a website, the only thing which has to be added by the user is design elements.

Monitor

For monitors I suggest you use low cost equipment as they will be being used to use the general purpose computers and to configure the storage server, I have selected a monitor which I think will fulfil this purpose.

The reason I have chosen this monitor is it is quite cheap and a good quality for the tasks it will be used for as the graphical computers I recommended are all in one so a monitor is not required.
