The Internet has rapidly become a socio-technical phenomenon much publicized at the end of the century (and millennium). Internet and any form of use of open electronic networks have and will have a major impact on society and its future. Impact of the Internet on society will have the following features and effects:

The Internet is a set of functionalities required by different research communities and especially useful to open exchange of digitized data via e-mail, file transfer computer and running (and research) of information on a global fabric of Web sites.

Simplification of work processes and communication. A first important effect of the Internet is to simplify and ease daily activities of administration or management. The researcher, the user works directly on the computer transmitting data and texts colleagues, clients or decision makers. Such documents are easily stored, reused at any time and by anyone. Electronic messaging allows communication and a high working efficiency, shortening breaks due to inefficient intermediaries. Working directly, immediately, that can be stored, reusable, transferable, working with the Internet and electronic networks deeply alter our habits. The question of the need to maintain certain positions in institutions (typist, secretary) or certain hierarchical positions unnecessary.

Reducing the costs. Another spectacular offered by Internet: reducing costs, especially the costs of communication and the related information and data handling. We know that it can substantially reduce prices for phone, fax through a judicious use of the Internet. This reduction can be felt at the level of institutions providing investment required to purchase powerful equipment (both at the state and school level, firms).

Group work, collective creativity. Computer networking and so there people who use them, leads us to a new phenomenon that is developing a new collective creativity. Teamwork through instruments such as groupware or workflow is relieved. It should be noted the risk that might occur. Therefore organizations need to rethink the future and structures in the evolution of the Internet.

Impressive access to information sources. It should be noted vast set of device information with millions of Web sites, multiple forums and electronic distribution lists numerous sites computerized files, new libraries, new museums online. I never received a wealth of information, even with a plethora of data and documents. The most important is to make information sorting, selecting the most relevant one.

Competitive institutions

Institutions that equipped today in terms of electronic networks and systematically using the Internet will have a real competitive advantage:

-increase efficiency internally, stimulate group work and cost reductions

-economic intelligence, mastering information and timely interventions

Jobs lost, others gained

In general, new information technologies and the Internet change the structure and distribution of jobs in a country in a given geographical area. It is clear that many traditional jobs, reminiscent of some old forms of work organization will disappear, especially everything that reminds intermediate operations, replaced today by computer and electronic communications. New jobs will occur on the development and specialization of individuals in institutions that will deal with using the Internet. It is difficult today to establish a thorough review of these changes, but already see signs of new thinking.

Stimulating research and development of knowledge

Field of activity that benefit most from the Internet is to research and knowledge development. There is nothing unusual, unexpected because it is known that the Internet was born in stimulating scientific environment for cooperation in this field.

Education and the Internet: new ways of teaching

In education, the internet will produce many changes. Apart from the new opportunities for access to education and knowledge, the Internet allows rethinking education: distance learning, training sites (in institutions or at home), forming lifelong, electronic mentoring, collective learning, etc.. This field in the near future we expect major innovations, changing education and learning devices inherited from the nineteenth century, even if good and productive. It requires that the means of education to use as much the Internet.

Inevitable risks of uncontrolled development of the Internet

It may be mentioned first computer security problems and risks penetration of computing environments, more or less well protected. You can use the software installed on personal sites, you can control transactions of any kind on the Internet, you can use cards or personal email addresses. There are countries where existing legislation allows control these abuses, but unfortunately ... not everywhere. It should be considered financial or monetary transaction risk on an unsecured network.
