Introduction

Breast Cancer is that form of cancer which has started affecting hundreds and thousands of women around the world. Not a long time ago the term was not even familiar in masses like it has become now. Every other day, we listen and see the ads in magazines or the diagnosis being found for the breast cancer. Awareness campaigns magazines ads and newspapers either tell us every single day about any case found of breast cancer, the symptoms, the diagnosis and the signs which appear with the instructions especially for women to get checked once in a while. Although this disease is more common in women but men also fall prey to the breast cancer. With everyday awareness campaigns, women are more inclined to know about the disease and get them checked instead of ignoring this life taking disease.

Rational of Awareness of Breast Cancer

The awareness has been initiated for the breast cancer in order to create awareness among the masses about a certain issue which is serious yet neglected to great extent. It is to enhance our communication skills of a student of mass communication while propagating any message by using different tools.

Objectives of the Breast Cancer Awareness

The reason why this topic was chosen:

One of my neighbors got ill and diagnosed to have a breast cancer, she was quite worried because she didn’t know much about this disease and that it can be dealt if found at early stage so it’s important for every woman to know about it so that without getting frightened, they can control it.

One of my dear and highly respected teachers laid her life fighting with this killing disease, so the purpose is to awake all the women because you never know when and how the disease will attack you

This is highly sensitive issue which needs to be addressed because many people especially women are reluctant to talk about such topic

The information about a significant topic shouldn’t be kept to one’s self. It should be told to others as well

To tell people about the preventive measures to detect at early age of this disease because prevention is better than cure.

God forbid if a woman is suffering from this disease, she would be known by the early methods of proper medication and treatment without any delay.

Thesis statement

The study aims to aware the women around the world on breast cancer and focuses mainly on the symptoms of the deadly disease and the measure that should be taken if one is diagnosed as a victim of the disease.

The history of breast cancer is back dated from 3600 hundred years in ancient Egypt. "Edwin Smith Papyrus" was a document that was found in Egypt that dated 1600 years back in which the enclosed document has the details of the examination, diagnosis treatment and symptoms of breast cancer. In the document there was enclosed the details of 40 cases of breast cancer which is the evidence that it has started in women many years ago.

What actually is breast cancer? Breast cancer cells actually start to grow in chest at first. The abnormal growth of cells in the healthy parts of the body becomes dangerous. The abnormal growth of malignant tumor in the cells which then invades the other parts of the body or spreads in the breast causes a problem resulting into Breast cancer which is one of the most dangerous diseases in women. The cells which forms the tissues are the actually the cells in which the cancer starts to grow. The process of the growth of the cells is disturbed sometimes making the news cells and the other old cells are not decayed or destroyed which makes the process dysfunctional. When this abnormal growth starts it results in spreading cancer cells and making it breast cancer. They cells keep on splitting and dividing and not coming under the cellular control. The breast cancer is not of one kind though it has further kinds that are Ductal carcinoma in situ, Lobualr carcinoma in situ, Invasive ductal carcinoma (starts in milk passage of women), Invasive lobular carcinoma (produced in milk glands).

Breast Cancer has become the second largest cancer taking lives of women in America and the disease women fear mainly. According to a predication of experts, breast cancer developed in 178,000 women in United States. There is now hope seen for the diagnosis in most of the cases of the Breast cancer because the treatments have been found in modern world. In 1975, there was a treatment introduced for the breast cancer in which the breast with the entire with underarm lymph nodes and muscles underneath the breast used to be removed in the treatment process but in more than 30 years new treatments and diagnosis have been discovered in which no such procedure has to be adopted and operations are being done successfully on women.

The malignant tumor in cell when spreads results in breast cancer and these kinds of damaged cells when diagnosed at proper time and detected early could be treated but after a specific period of time chances become less. This is mostly seen in women and men seldom suffer from this disease. (Medical review- breast cancer guide)

Research conducted tells that in United States that one out of eight women will be diagnosed as a breast cancer in their lifetime and is commonly diagnosed disease in America. Other than this it was said that approximately 220,000 women will be diagnose with the disease of breast cancer and approximately 40,000 will face the death by this deadly disease. Even though the ratio is far less in men but still it is estimated that 2,150 men will be estimated fighting with this disease and 410 might die because of breast cancer.

When doctors diagnose the disease it is natural that how you became victim of the disease. When the tumor is diagnosed in the beginning or in the early stage the doctors rather than treating and taking it out leaves it but when it grows and becomes a cause of pain and infecting other areas, they take it out and remove it leaving the pain aside. The symptoms of breast cancer includes the pain in breast, heaviness in breast, lumps emerging or the color of the breast changing, bleeding from nipples, flattening over skin of breast, red marks that aches so when these symptoms are seen by the women they should go for the check to the doctors and adopt early preventions rather than taking it easy. There are even grades and different stages of tumors. So, all the girls and women should be careful and examine their breasts regularly and should not go in sun wearing black bras because it is one of the major reasons of developing of breast cancer among women. Likewise avoid drinking alcohol but the family history of the breast cancer cannot be avoided because there are chances that it could be handed down from family line. Smoking cigarettes and sheesha smoking has become much trendier in the youth of different countries and the fact is that males and females both are involved in this activity and females thus fall prey of the breast cancer more quickly than the males.

From side to side the National Mammography Program is very supportive and they help in providing mammograms for those women who cannot afford them or are uninsured by the government. (National breast cancer org.)

Understanding and knowing about the different parts or the anatomy of the breast will make it easier for you to understand and know about the breast cancer. You will get more to know and examine about your body and cells. Make sure that you are aware if anything unusual happens to your breast and in that case go to the doctor for the urgent check up and then keep in touch with him even if it is not detected as breast cancer for the first time but you still feel unusual. The pink Ribbon is known throughout the world as an international symbol of breast cancer and the breast cancer day is also celebrated in the world among the women. In almost all the countries of the world, the pink ribbon has started their awareness campaigns and walks to give education to women about the breast cancer and to tell them about the symptoms and when to get checked by the doctor and how to save them from falling the prey of this deadly disease because prevention is always better than the cure. National breast cancer awareness month is also celebrated internationally every year and it is arranged by heavy charity organizations for the charities to make more research and providing better cures and treatment to the women of the world.

Conclusion

According to a survey of World health Organization the breast cancer has become the most known cancer among women as many women suffer and die because of this cancer in the world despite the fact of modernization. But now the death rate in women due to breast cancer is declining after 1990’s because of awareness campaigns, diagnosis and early detection whereas the death rate has come down in the women who are 50 plus in age.

The breast cancer is a term which has now become well-known term in all the societies around the world. The women in the world now have become more conscious about their health and about getting checked to get diagnosed and early detection saves the lives which is better than the cure.
