Thorstein The Staff Struck Literature

For my medieval literature paper I am going to use Thorstein the Staff-Struck literature. First I am going to talk about what the author’s aspect portrayed in this literature. Second I well talk about the society of the literature.

In this literature the author seemed to like to make everyone’s name start with Thor except for one that did not start with Thor, so he might like that name Thor. I also think he sees women as house wives when in today’s world that is less common. The author sees them as just women he never says their name in the book until like half way through the book. The author may also be scared of woman since in the book the author writes about Bjarni and that when his wife was telling he was a coward for not doing something with Thorstein for killing his horse hand guy and then killing the brothers the hole time he never said anything to his wife he just lets her do her talking and lets her go on with her day. So it might be assumed that he might be a little timed of his wife but who knows he may have just been thinking and not listening which could lead to him being someone that ignores people so maybe the author is someone that ignores people instead of scared of women. So the author could be a person that considers woman only house wives and he might be a little scared of them or just good at ignoring people.

One of The authors characters seems to be a good guy and does not wont to cause trouble but whenever everyone starts calling him a coward he gives in and goes fight off Thorstein but they are not really fighting to kill I don’t think. So this might portray that the author might be a good guy but may not have that control over his manhood of not being able to handle being a called a coward so he goes and fight to show everyone he is not a coward. There is also another example with him not wonting anyone calling him a coward when his horse hand guy got killed his wife and the brothers started calling him a coward for laying low and not doing anything about Thorstein, so after that he sent the brothers to kill Thorstein. The author may also be a good liar since in the book one of the characters lied to Thorstein’s father about Thorstein dying when they were fighting and he believed him. So, the author could be a good all-around guy and he also could be a good liar.

The author may also me a Christian since one of his characters died a Christian. Also the author may also be a man of great courage and integrity and at the end of his life he may have become a better liked man and more self- controlled. I think this because when one of his characters was older he was considered a man of great courage and integrity and became better-liked and more self-controlled the older he grew. The reason I think the other might be all of these thing because a lot of writers base their books on how they were in life.

Now I am going to talk about the society of this literature. The society of the book seemed to like revenge and to never be called a coward. I see revenge when at the horse fight, were Thorstein and Thord were having one of their two stallions fighting and Thord noticed his horse was losing so he hit Thorstein’s horse, and when he did that Thorstein hit Thord’s horse for revenge and then Thord hit Thorstein for doing that which leads to my next topic. Also, the society seems to be a very good gossip town because after the fight Thorstein told everyone not to tell his father but word go around and his father found out and said he was a coward for not defending himself after Thord hit him. After that Thorstein went to proof his father wrong and went and killed Thord. Then Bjarni wonted revenge because Thord was his horse boy so he sent his bothers Thorvald and Thorhall to kill Thorstein, but Thorstein killed them. So you can see a lot off revenge in this book there is also were Bjarni was called a coward for not doing anything to Thorstein so Bjarni when and fought with Thorstein. So there is lots of revenge, don’t call me a coward kind of stuff, and gossip as well in this books society.

So as you can see I think the author could like to start names with Thor or he just likes that name. He might still see woman as just house wives and he might be a little timed or he just really good a ignoring them. The author might be a good guy and does not want to cause trouble but also may not like being called a coward. The author may also be a good lair he also may be a Christian toward the end of his life and a more better-liked man and more self-controlled also. You can also see that I think the society likes revenge and to never be called a coward. Also the society may also like to gossip about thinks instead of keeping it a quite.
