What is Astrology?

Astrology you could say is a probabilistic interpretation of the expected future happenings planned for us and we use Astrology to help mentally prepare for the good and bad of our future. It also reveals the hidden traits in a person�s individuality and personality and helps show us why a person is and tends to behave the way he or she does.

These planets open up within us as those qualities forming our so called personalities and from an individual�s time, place and date of birth we may put together an accurate birth chart of the planets as they were at the time of our births. We may now study their positions and their relative distances and from this we will be able to make a good probabilistic guess as to, �why an event took place the way it had done so in the past or perhaps what are the chances of it to occur in the future. Therefore, you see, the term astrology is just an assumptive guess of something waiting to happen and is non-definitive. Nevertheless, if it is only an assumption how accurate can the guess be?

Well, some astrologers are good, some very good and a some special, and the rest rubbish. The latter are those who do it simply for the sake of making a quick buck or two. So, my question is �What makes one good and another very good and of course another special?

Well, that depends entirely on their individual predicative methods of analysing what�s before them. It�s all to do with the way they synthesise all the information they have together. One could say it�s a bit like doing a jigsaw puzzle, finding and fitting the correct pieces together to get the final picture and in this case the final outcome.

Ok! that answers the question about why some are good, but, please tell me why others are special.

Do you mean? like Monika Dewani, perhaps.

Yes, her. Well, the thing that gives her the edge over the rest is the fact that she has been given a gift in the literally sense, from God.

Let me explain. When Monika was an infant her story was really quite sad and began like this. She lost her mum when she was a quaint two year old. Her father was one day at work and her mum and her at home. The gas stove would not light. So, her mum went to add the Kerosene. Mum was wearing a beautiful sari awaiting her dear husband�s arrival from work. Some Kerosene supposedly splashed over her and unaware of the consequences to follow mum went to light the stove. Her sari also caught ablaze. Monika at the tender age of just two was horifically and forceably made to watch as a result of her fate.

Monikas father 3-4 years on decided to remarry. So, Monika now had a step mother and three step sisters. When Monika�s father used to go to work as he often did her step mum used to feed her own lovingly while Monika was simply left hungry or was simply made to eat the left overs. Poor Monika was forced to wash the dishes and at such a small age could not even reach the sink so often stood on a thing or two. Often her step mum would make her go alone on long errands to distant and dangerous markets to pick up fruit, meat and vegetables for the family. She was whipped although seldom with a belt and marked by pinches, slaps and punches on her thighs, arms and legs by both her mum and sisters. She was not allowed to concentrate on her own school work and instead was made to do dirty chores around the house. Many a times she used to cry at night alone, while awake and also in her sleep. She had no mum to love her. She says Devi Maa an Indian Goddess she refers to as her mum till today one night came to her when she was sad and weeping, cradled her and put something in her mouth. It dissolved here quickly. This was her Vani from Devi Maa. A gift to be able to read the souls of others. Vani in India Mythology is a kind of power given to a human by a supremer soul or entity whom we may refer to as God or a disciple of God. In Monika�s case this would be her sixth sense. She sees things many a times what other�s cannot not even phsychics. Anyway�s going back to where I left off and to cut a story short, her father one evening while having dinner noticed bruises and marks on his poor daughters� arms and legs. Deeply saddened and distressed and not knowing what to do frantically decided to send little Monika to a hostel or orphanage you could. Many years passed by and Monika was now 17 and an independent grown young lady, now. By now her father had divorced and pennyless took abode with his sympathetic elder brother. His �x� wife had cleaned him up mentally and financially with her years of greedy demands and ill abuse. She even used to strike him. He had no money left for himself let alone for his dear Monika. One evening he met with a motor scooter accident, in 2006 or thereabouts. Monika received a call from a police officer informing her of his sudden accident informing her to hurry to meet him. She did so. The journey was far as she lived in a different state. When she reached he was already dead. She was devastated and fully broken, again. She, continued living in and out of hostels with only a suitcase or two and a few personal affects which she called her own and her father�s photo was to be one of them. And then of course she met me the one who gave her the inspiration to write and dedicate it to her loving mama and papa.

How to read a Birth Chart

Part1. To see if we are going to have a good or bad or mixed dasha of both good and bad together, first of all one needs to have a look at the placement of the dasha planet, itself.

Let�s assume it�s Venus for our purpose.

Check to see if Venus is excelled (positive), debilitated (negative) or in fall (harmful) to the querent.

Is Venus in a friendly sign or an enemy sign (in other words is it in a friendly lords house or enemies).

Is Venus being aspected or in conjunction with a friend or enemy planet in which case is it in a strong or weak position.

Is Venus in a Kendra house (1,4,7,10).

Mars, Saturn, Sun, Rahu(Uranus) and Ketu(Neptune) placed here become more benefic and planets like Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Moon become less benefic.

However, should houses (1,4,7,10) be empty with no planets in them then simply locate the planets corresponding to each of the Kendra lords and apply the same principle to the houses in which they are seated.

Now, check to see if Venus is in a Triakona house (1,5,9).

Mars, Saturn, Sun, Rahu(Uranus) and Ketu(Neptune) placed here become more benefic and planets like Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Moon become more benefic.

However, should houses (1,5,9) be empty with no planets in them then simply locate the planets corresponding to each of the Triakona lords and apply the same principle to the houses in which they are seated.

All planets be it benefic or malefic give good results in houses 3 and 11 full stop.

Check to see if the planet is a functional malefic or functional benefic and if so is it sitting with a functional malefic or functional benefic. Example a benefic like Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and Moon if in houses 6,8,12 become functional malefics and malefics like Mars, Saturn, Sun, Rahu(Uranus) and Ketu(Neptune) in these houses become functional malefic i.e. more malefic than usual.

If houses 6,8,12 are empty then once again simply locate the planets corresponding to these lords and apply the same principle to those Houses in which they are seated.

Check to see if a planet is conjunct or aspected by a benefic planet then it automatically get�s stronger and better and more benefic.

Check to see if the planet is conjunct or aspected by a malefic planet in which case it will receive bad afflictions and get more negative.

If a planet is conjunct or aspected by a planet that rules a good House i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11, then it also get�s stronger and better and more benefic. If a planet is conjunct or aspected by a planet that rules a bad House i.e. 6,8,12 then it receives bad affliction and becomes more negative.

Check the position and strength of the Karaka, the signifactor planet for the sign.

Are things healthy?

Now, check to see if the planet is in it�s own element and is it moveable, fixed or adaptable.

Check to see if the planet is in an Upachya house i.e. 3, 6, 10 or 11, these houses give good growing results with time.

Should a planet of the lord of the 6th, 8th or 12th house be placed in any of these houses it is called Vipareeta Raja Yoga and means that there will be results after a lot of struggle.

If the 6th house is a malefic house and if it should contain a benefic planet in it, then there may not be many obstacles, but should it house a malefic planet/s in there will certainly be obstacles in the querent�s life.

The same applies to the 8th and 12th house, too. The conjunction of a triakona lord planet from 1, 5 and 9 with a quadrant lord planet 1, 4, 7 and 10 makes a Raja Yoga and the 1st and 5th co-joining makes what is called a Maha Raja Yoga, an excellent yoga for prosperity.

Check to see if Mercury is well placed or in it�s own House. The person will be extremely intelligent and learned.

Check to see if Jupiter and Moon are aspected or in conjunction this gives a Gaja Kesari Yoga. The native may become well known and receive lots of fame.

Check to see the placements of Rahu(Uranus), Ketu(Neptune) and Saturn as they are good friends.

Check the Aspects.

Every planet has an interest or aspect on the 7th house.

Jupiter has an interest or aspect on the 1st, 5th, 7th & 9th houses.

Mars has an interest or aspect on the 1st, 4th, 7th & 8th houses.

Saturn has an interest or aspect on the 1st, 3rd, 7th & 10th houses.

Rahu has an interest or aspect on the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th & 9th houses.

The nature of planets is not about enemies but about how and in which way they give their results.

Sun, Mars, Rahu(Uranus), Ketu(Neptune) and Saturn are always malefic.

Moon changes being benefic during the Moon's waxing stage and malefic in the waning stage.

Mercury is an adaptive planet and can be benefic or malefic depends on which planet�s with it. Mercury can be considered a very diplomatic planet.

Venus is always a benefic.

Check to see if Mercury is with Jupiter or Venus it is good and when Mercury is with Mars, Sun, Rahu(Uranus), Ketu(Neptune) or Saturn it is bad.

Check to see if Venus and Sun are close in a chart(by comparing the degrees), in which case it loses it�s energy to Sun. This is called combustion. Venus gets combusts and loses all it's influence to Sun. So, any planet in proximity to the Sun gets combusted (burnt) due to the huge heat emitted. But, note that when Jupiter is close to Sun it does not combust as much. And there is an exception though. When Rahu(Uranus) and Ketu(Neptune) are close to the Sun they do not get combust.

Why do you think this is?

Well, these 2 planets simply eclipse the Sun and cast a shadow on it and make the Sun very weak.

Saturn is perceived as a bad planet, but he puts people to work and makes things happen.

If Saturn is Yogakaraka, it is hardly going to trouble the person even in a Sade Sathi Period or a Saturn dasha period.

Why, though? ��..

When the Saturn lord occupies a Kendra or Triakona house in a birth chart. Example in a Taurus or Libra ascendant the 9th and 10th house, or the 4th and 5th House, respectively. So, when Saturn lord occupies a Kendra or Triakona house then during Sade sati or the person�s Saturn dasha period instead of the individual suffering he may infact become more fortunate. But, when the Saturn lord is not occupying one of these auspicious houses he may lose a dear one or all his wealth.

After judging all this go to the Divisional charts mainly the D3, D9 (Navamsa Chart) and the D10 chart.

Why the D3?�. it shows the individual�s general happiness and well being in life.

Why check the placement of Venus in the Navamsa D9 chart?�. well, in the D1 birth chart we may have been unable to gather sufficient knowledge of the true workings and meanings behind Venus in the birth chart.

And, now by looking at the D9 we will effect be disecting the actual house Venus is in and actually deeply peering into it in order to see the real hidden secrets behind it. For example, in the D9 Venus may be placed in a Kendra (1,4,7 &10 Houses) or Triakona house (1,5 & 9) and in the D1 not so.

Similarly, it may be necessary to look at the D10 chart and again check to see if also it�s placements are in the Kendra (1,4,7 &10) or Triakona (1,5 & 9) houses. Now, considering all 4 charts the D1, D3, D9 and D10 we are able to get to know lot�s about the individual in question. Should malefic planets be in their Triacona house (1,5 & 9) then things tend to get a bit tricky snce although they may be very good Houses, malefic planets here don�t normally give good results unless they are friendly to the ascendant.

So, should one have a Gemini ascendant it�s ruling planet being Mercury and assuming that Saturn is in the 5th house in Libra and also knowing that Saturn is excelled here, Saturn may provide good results but also bad results, too. That depends on whether Saturn is either neutral or friendly to the ascendant after all in this Gemini ascendant horoscope Saturn becomes the lord of the 8th and the 9th House and since it is excelled in Libra the effect of this positive mood of exaltation will also shadow the 8th and 9th Houses. Therefore one may satisfactory conclude that Saturn�s placement in houses 5, 8 & 9 in the chart will in general be good, but, we need also to look at the aspecting planets and other factors before we are able to conclude anything confirmatory.

Now let�s look at a chart with Taurus ascendant whose ruling planet is Venus and Mars's placement in the 9th House of luck in Capricorn and what more also excelled. Mars may also perform well here like Saturn did in our last example because it also may be neutral or a friend to Mars (Please check my enemy and friend chart). So, concluding that Mars is not exactly a friend to the ascendant nor an enemy but simply neutral with Venus. Not forgetting that Mars� ruling Houses are 1 & 8 so here with Taurus ascendant the houses where Mars will generally provide good results and feel at home in will be houses 7 and 12.

If Mars was instead in the 9th house of our Gemini ascendant i.e. in Aquarius ruled by Saturn then there would surely be trouble regarding the matters of the 9th house and what more also the houses that Mars automatically rules in this chart as well.

Can you tell which are the 2 Houses ruled by Mars in a Gemini ascendant chart?

Well, if you guessed house 6 (Virgo whose ruler is Mercury � Enemy to Mars) and house 11 (Aquarius whose ruler is Saturn � Enemy to Mars) you would be correct.

Part.2.

Let�s now look at another example.

Consider Leo ascendant and Mars in the 8th house in Pisces whose ruler is Jupiter (see chart below).

First let�s confirm if Jupiter is friendly to the ascendant lord Leo whose ruler is Sun. Yes, Sun and Jupiter are friends (can be seen from my chart of friends and enemies).

Now, what is the 8th house for.

It�s the house of sudden events and how you let the old and outworn die so it may be transformed into something new and useful. It�s the house of death and rebirth.

Here since things are on a positive note relating to this house then the results borne here will also be good.

Now, checking the houses that Mars likes to rule, always 1 and 8. So here with a Leo ascendant the houses ruled by Mars are 9 and 4.

Houses 9 and 4 funny enough are Mars�s houses in any case.

And as the ascendant Sun is a good friend of Mars one may confirm that the results pertaining to these 2 houses will bud good results.

House 9 - the way you look for the meaning and point of Life through philosophy, religious conviction, higher wisdom, religious studies, mysticism, inner vision, a sense of humour, observing and connecting widely divergent ideas and self opinions and the art of learning about life and its diversity through the study of foreign ideas, foreign cultures or religions, travelling to foreign lands, encounters with alien people and their very much different viewpoints and thinking, tolerance of foreign races, cultures, religions and traditions.

And house 4 - relates to the way you feel "nurtured": mothered by a parent figure not necessarily an actual parent, looked after, fed, nourished, clothed, comforted, supported, protected, feeling wanted, a sense of belonging to someone and what makes a home.

Now, let us have a look at where Sun (our soul) is. If placed in the 10th house may signify that the individual�s soul revolves around his career.

When in the 9th house may suggest that they may be looking for a greater meaning to life through philosophy, religious conviction, higher wisdom, a sense of humour and the art of learning about life and its diversity through the study of foreign ideas, foreign cultures or religions, travelling to foreign lands, encounters with alien people. Their very much different viewpoints and thinking, tolerance of foreign races, cultures, religions and traditions.

Sun is in house 5 it�s own house where it feels comfortable to be in. All in all matters of house 5 should prove fruitful. How they enjoy art & music and find joy through the perception of beauty in any form and how they procreate themselves in the art of romance & courtship and the love making process and the making of babies, their children, their personal creations.

House 4 is Moon�s house and 9 Jupiter�s. Both Moon and Jupiter are good friends and also to friends with the ascendant Sun. We may reconfirm that the benefits pertaining to the 4th and 9th houses will be good and should houses 4 and 9 be in Kendra or Triakona houses, this will further confirm that the results of these Houses will be productive and rewarding.

The 9th house of distant journeys and foreign settlement and the 4th house being Scorpio a fixed sign with Jupiter sitting in it and the 4th signifying the family house. The lord of the 9th house confirming that settlement abroad will be of a fixed type since Jupiter is usually the ruling planet here. Fixed meaning that the native will be happy in his new distant place and will not like to come back to his original place of abode.

This synthesis may have proved a little bit tricky for any amateur astrologer to have worked out, nevertheless hopefully a thing or two may have been learnt here.

Now, we also need to look at the actual lord governing this House in this chart and we see it to be Jupiter and again Jupiter is a very good friend to the ascendant lord Sun and therefore this only confirms that the benefits listed above pertaining to the 5th House become reinforced in a positive way. Now, also knowing that Jupiter rules houses 9 and 12 and it may be seen that Jupiter here will give good results as regards to houses 5 and 8, too.

The positive benefits derived from 5 will be greater fortified and the 8th house of sudden events of good or bad will be more in favour of the good rather than the bad.

Now let�s have a look at the 10th House ordinarily Saturn�s house. We find Saturn sitting here comfortably since it�s effectively it�s own House.

Let�s now have a look at whose lording this house. It�s Taurus and the ruling planet for this lord is Venus. So, we can say that Saturn is Venus� guest in Taurus.

Now, are Venus friends or enemies (look at the chart of friends and enemies).

We see that Saturn and Venus are friends, therefore we may confirm that Saturn is very welcome here in house 10 lorded by Taurus.

Thus, we may now confirm that the results of house 10 in terms of career and father are auspicious.

Now let�s check to see if house 10 is aspected by any other planets in any other way.

Yes, Saturn is aspected by Mars at 60 degrees i.e. Mars is sextile to Saturn which suggests:

Well let�s look at the lagna lord Leo whose ruler is Sun.

Where is Sun?

In house 2 lorded by Virgo whose ruling planet is Mercury.

Sun is a guest in Mercury�s House. And Sun and Mercury are friends.

Sun is also conjunct with Mercury and Mercury is in it�s own house.

So, the rewards of house 2 are positive.

Let�s go a step further.

House 2 is usually lorded by Taurus whose ruling planet is Venus and Venus, Sun and Mercury are all good friends.

So, it can be reconfirmed that the results of this House are very good.

Now, Venus is the natural ruler of house 7 also.

Here we have Jupiter in Saturn lords house excellent friends of Venus

What is the 7th house about. It is the house of business partnerships and marriage. Since Jupiter is a friend of Sun�s the good things offered by house 7 should also be good. But, Jupiter is sitting in Saturns� lords house Aquarius and from the chart of friends and enemies it can be seen that both planets are friendly to each other hence the result of this House will be good and knowing that Jupiter rules houses 9 and 12 as a rule. Therefore, it may be concluded that Jupiter rules houses 5 and 8 in this chart and as Jupiter has proved positive to now in this chart from house 7, houses 5 and 8 we reap the rewards similarly since these Houses also belong to Jupiter.

Now, moving to Venus in House 3 we see that Venus is in it�s own house Libra which is v. good, and this substantially reduces the bad effect from the Venus and Sun being enemies and therefore the overall results of the 3rd house will be favourable. Also, Venus is the natural ruler of houses 2 and 7. In this chart this points to houses 3 and 10 which basically tells us that the native will be lucky also with respect to these Houses aswell house 10 relating to their career and relationship with father and house 3 relating to: the house of communication which could be through transportation, computer or telephone. Hence this house can indicate any sort of short travel too. This house is also used to determine whether the native would go on to do business or would he be in a service. The careers suggested by this house are of a broker, publicist, or a representative. Since the house is also the house of books and publications, jobs like those of editor or journalist are also suggested.

Benefic planets Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury behave like functional malefics in a chart when they are in their own Houses or Mooltrikona Houses.

Generally when 2 benefics like Jupiter and Moon, Jupiter and Venus, Mercury and Moon, etc. are in Conjunction, Trine or Sextile in a chart i.e. in the same house sitting side by side, or four Houses away(Trine) or two Houses away(Sextile) then this native be blessed with good luck and prosperity.

Depending upon Mars� placement in this person�s chart and checking to see if Mars� planetary energy is good or bad, weak or strong, will be a sure factor in determining how the initial 3 years and 4 months of his life will proceed.

Details of an individual�s date, time and place of birth information will deduce which dasha period the native begins life in immediately after birth.
